You can taste the malt even after you finish a drink. Sweet with some spice and very good hop to malt distribution. Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 21, 2004 Slightly hazy auburn red with a thin, off-white head. The aroma has a strong hoppy nose. Sweet citrus is meshed with a lightly toasted nut and grain combination. A bit of chocolate and carmel pop in and out as well. The body is a bit thick, but as it’s a winter beer, that makes sense. The flavors are representative of the nose. There is a bit of sweet, chewy malt, but the dominate characteristic is the bitterness from the strong hops. The finish is warming and bitter, with a touch spiciness from the hops. A nice, bitter amber that would probably be better at its freshest. iwantalambic (1389), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 25, 2004 12 oz bottle: full light tan head that emits a chocolate-hazelnut hop aroma, with a bit of sweet caramel malt. Clear brown tangerine. Sweet malty flavour with a piney hop underbelly. Nothing spectacular in this bottle, but one of the better, more flavourful ambers. belgianhomebrew (646), Acworth, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 13, 2004 Slightly sweet, malt aroma. Sweet carries throughout with a touch of caramel. Very lightly hopped. A good example of the style. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 8, 2004 Sweet fruit aroma (plum sugar). Fresh loganberry. Small, off-white head. Brownish red in color. Very small head. Clear body. Very little visible carbonation. No lace. Initial mouthfeel good. Hints of strong alcohol that aren’t realized. Decent flavor, but not overly exciting. An average beer. New Glarus has more average beers than good beers. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 14, 2004 Ruby amber with a medium frothy bubbly white head. Great lacing on the glass. The nose is sweet and some wheat in the nose. It has that lager feel to the taste and kinda sour very slightly. The body is medium. Overall, quite average. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 13, 2004 Clear amber tawny brown color with a medium tannish head that sits briefly, nearly no lace, just some faint glaring clearish spots. Aroma is nice, subtle and layered with some interesting effects of malts, here's what I get - whole grain toast with some peanut butter, honey, and caramel on it. Sounds good...smells good...and tastes good...light and mild start of grasses and husks, then whole grain toasty breadyness thats very grabbing and rather rich mixing with a bit of spicy/herbal hops, that lets go to lay a leveling array of malty breads, sweetens some, notes of roasted nuts and butter squeeze through at the finish where it goes lightly dry and lighter still of tangy sweetened bread. Nice subtle complexitiy to it, me likes it. Feel is about medium, smooth and inactive carbonation lending a slight creamyness that holds well throughout. A pretty darn good little amber here, reminds me more of a Vienna, but drinkable for sure, a close cousin to Eliot Ness in some regards.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 21, 2004 Nice amber color with a mostly diminishing off white head. Aroma is malty with a little spiciness. Flavor has some nice malty roastiness with hint of smoke. This is about as good as ambers get.
