Commercial Description:
Solstice Weiss is gently brewed, in the time honored tradition, using 60% malted wheat and a triple fermentation. This is a true Bavarian style Weiss bier. “Weiss” means white in Bavaria, which refers to the yeast that remains in our unfiltered bier. Note the brilliant white froth and subdued golden hue. Expect this bier to have a soft champagne like quality, complemented by a wheat character that sparkles with fruity tones.

A hazy orange beer with a fine white head. The aroma is of yeast, wheat, and peach - I don’t remember that before in a Weizen. The flavor has very strong notes of peach, but also notes of the wheat and yeast. And the body is thin. I don’t like peach in my wheat beer - maybe it is what others describe as bubblegum - so this is not really my game.

The star of the Light Ales/Lagers tasting in Chicago. Very turbid appearance - my style of wheat beer already! Large banana, vanilla aroma. Sweet and dessert-like. Rich sweet malts, all (good) kinds of phenols. Slightly spicy finish. Moderate-sized, slightly creamy body. Brilliant balance.

(RBSG2003): Creamy banana body with small white head. Aroma is banana, moderately sweet, wheat, yeast, light clove, medium lemon. Taste is lemon/banana, good yeast, light wheat. Medium lemon acidity, light body.

Bottle acquired in trade with robsreality (thanks!). Poured a medium and cloudy orange/amber color with an averaged sized head (that quickly disappeared). Fruity and sweet aromas. Tastes of bubblegum, wheat, light bananas and light citrus. Clean and crisp finish. I enjoyed this one.

Cloudy orangey deep gold. Quickly diminishing white head leaving a small cover. Heavy wheat and banana nose, almost caramelly sweetness. Honeymelon and bubblegum procure even more sweetness while the yeasty notes reminds of band-aids. Quite medicinal, focusing primarily on banana, slightly woody and deceptively lightly carbonated. I didn’t quite seize the hype here, but this may have been a bit old. Thanks CaptainCougar.

Bottle... TITW Part Deux... Cloudy golden ale with a small, frothy, white head. Fruity, beefy aroma with apricot esters; smoke and light clove phenols. The flavor is very sweet, fruity and gently tangy. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Sweet, fruity finish. How many wheat beers does New Glarus brew? Not a favorite style of mine. Thanks go out to growler for providing the bottle!

Rerate 9/17/04: I don't know what I was thinking the first time I tried this brew. This is actually one of the best American made German wheat beers I've had. Great authentic yeasty flavor and malted wheat balance. This goes down so smooth and flavorable, it is a perfect session beer for a hot summer day. A lot of spice, even a bit a smoke. Sort of sweet and sour with almost undectable hopping. The overabundance of clove keeps this beer from flowing well from start to finish. Lacks the mellowness of a true German wheat, but is unique in and of itself.
