The aroma has some doughy malt, citrus, grass, and a hint of clove. The flavor opens up once this beer gets warmer. It has more doughy malts, is delicately sweet, and has some nice, subtle citrus and spice to it. This beer has a medium-light body and feels tingly in the mouth. Overall this beer is pretty good. I wish I had a more refined palate when it comes to Belgians though. I feel like I am missing something in this beer...

Tastes similar to New Glarus Spotted Cow but with more complex flavors. I am a big fan of Spotted Cow and the Stone Soup is a nice change of pace. sliffy (1983), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma, bready malts, some yeast, spice, and a hint of carpet. Flavor, yeasty, some lemon, pale malts, and a grassy, floral hop character on the end. TheEnemy (422), Chicago, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 30, 2007 12oz bottle. Pours a modestly hazy straw-yellow with two fingers worth of bubbly poofy head that eventually settles to a single layer in the middle with a ring around the edges. Leaves virtually no lacing behind as it goes down. Aroma is light and spicy with lemony citrus with some hop bitterness showing. Flavor starts out with the lemon citrus and grassy, moderately bitter hops, followed by a hint of spice reminiscent of banana and bubblegum -- I reckon this is the work of the "monastic yeast" referenced in the commercial description. Palate is surprisingly full-bodied for an otherwise easy-drinking summery beer. All and all this is a pleasant, well-made beer, but the basic formula has been done better by the likes of Huyge (Delirium Tremens) and Moortgat (Duvel). presario (2965), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Smells like a Belgian with sharp spice. Flavour is softer than the aroma. Like a farmhouse Hoegaarden. Drinkable with tongue tingling spice. Herb spice finish. Pours an interesting cloudy yellow with a simple head. Sweet, thick, doughy tasting. Tastes strangliy similar to Mountain Creek Classic Lager. The breweries where that and this are made aren’t real far from one another. Hmmmm.???????????? joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA

Stone Soup pours a mildly moderately hazy (from bottle conditioning) golden that lightens considerably when held to the light. A 2 finger white craggy head formed on the pour that fell to 1 finger after some time. Glassful of carbonation bubbles rise to the head. Moderate lacing.
Aroma begins with a nice refreshing lemon zest. Pale biscuity malts are present in the background and there is a very small sprinkling of clove. The bottle states that ginger is used but I don’t pick any up.
The flavor starts off with biscuity malts but is quickly overtaken by a lemon and mild orange sweetness. Slight metallic twang on the back end accompanied by the clove from the aroma.
Bod is on the lighter side. High carbonation, not prickly but it does tickle the sides of the tongue. Refreshing.
Easy drinker that’s perfect for a warm summer day like today. Quenching with a light enough body to drink a few in a sitting.
A solid brew from New Glarus. I’ve had some better in the past but this is an affordable highly drinkable brew. I think I’ll crack another.
