Commercial Description:
Barley Wines are big beers! In fact this is the strongest beer we have ever brewed for our friends here in Wisconsin. This beer is "malt accented" so we searched the world and found the richest, most expensive barley varieties we could find. We bought the best barley available not only here in the United States but in Belgium, Germany and Scotland. You can thank Scottish farmers for growing Golden Promise barley because we used bushels of it in this beer to yield a full and rich flavor. We sourced hops from the United States and Germany but again turned to the UK for our signature hop, "East Kent Golding". This ale is fermented in this bottle and is suitable for laying down. It is so strong that we guess it will continue to improve for years!

Ruby-like amber color. Medium-small off-white creamy head; fades to a nice creamy ring. Aroma has malty melons. First taste... I was ready for disappointment due to overexcitement of a New Glarus barleywine. I was surprised by a pleasant slightly hoppy, slightly malty body. The malt is a little caramelly with glazed doughnuts. The hops give it a "German barleywine" feel. Its kind of light overall, but well put together and easy drinking. Nice balanced mouthfeel.

Thin off-white head of fine bubbles. Light carbonation. Head reforms very nicely upon swirling. Sweet and malty aroma with caramel, honey and a hint of butterscotch. Dark orange amber in color. Interesting flavor. Thick and sweet with a bunch of pepper. I like it though. More caramel and honey. Some other spices in there also. Clean but full bodied. Only a little hops presence. Finish is smooth and yummy with a lingering ginger and sweet malts flavor. I like this beer quite a lot but I am not sure why. It is a good barleywine but a little different than most. Thanks to robertsreality for this one.

MN Ratebeer Winter Get-together. Bottle. Urinal patty aroma, but in a good way. Clear amber body. Served too warm. I wonder how good it would have been served at the proper temperature. Good thing I have an extra bottle. Rich, sweet flavor. My tail is wagging. Really interesting, unique flavor. Sweet, but lovely unique flavor.

Amber, orange pour. Honey pepper aroma. Slightly metallic flavor up front. Not terribly carbonated, but served at the perfect temp. Medium to thick body. Thin, honey molasses flavor. Bitterness continues to increase and ends in a sweet fruity bitterness. Alcohol taste gets real strong in the end. I enjoyed this quite a bit, especially because I don’t enjoy barley wines all that much.

Alcohol is a bit up front and the second bottle is getting laid down for at least a year. Big sticky mouthfeel and lots of....passionfruit, cherry liqueur, whole grain bread, clean mineral water, and of course caramel.

bottle. pours an orange-copper body with a creamy white off-white head. the aroma is mostly pleasant with notes of sweet oranges, chocolate, and cherries. very big chewy sweet malt flavour with a bit too much alcohol as it warms up. Also there are some apricot, apple fruit, and caramel flavours but it’s generally eclipsed by the alcohol component. Thanks for sharing, Len.

smells like the strawberry syrup they have at IHOP. context dependent: there bad, here good. in fact it might smell even sweeter than that. impeccable pour, but given the thick opacity of lighter NG’s i’d expect more here. taste is immediately untamed, unbalanced, and saccharine. but the alcohol is so well hidden i’m willing to excuse the maltiness. definitely joins forces with the glands on the roof of my mouth to turn out a syrupy lining for my palatoglossal arch.

Bottle. Murky orange color, nothing unusual. Nose is berry, grapes, raisin, and citrus. Off white thin head which evaporates into a ring around the snifter I poured it in. Mouthfeel is refreshing. Pretty well balance of malt & hops. Not as "extreme" as some I’ve had in this style. This might be good for someone who has recently just started drinking the BW style.
