Sweet ethereal notes of vanilla, syrup, malt and alcohol. Very well-balanced brew with a rock-candy element to go with the vast malt, light hop and deep alcohol flavors. Finish lingers as a fine after-dinner port, syrupy and satisfying. dhlesq (233), Thousand Oaks, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 30, 2005 Aroma of honey, cotton candy, grapes, rum. Appears a crystal clear amber color with no head and no noticeable effervescence. Flavor is sweet and vinous, with sweet malt dominating, and finishing with notes of earthy hops followed by a hint of oak. Palate is thick and syrupy but definitely appropriate for the strength and flavors. Overall, this is a fantastic brew that is somewhat greater than the sum of its parts. This is a beer that I would love to see in an oak-aged version. My thanks go to joeybgood for this tasty brew. ewesner (2), Evanston, Illinois, USA does not count | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Nov 30, 2005 The label doesn’t lie, it’s big beer alright. Thick, sweet and very full flavored. Another good New Glarus brew, but not one for everyday drinkin’ in my opinion IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 27, 2005 Thanks to JPDIPSO for this beer.
Poured a clear efferescent dark orange-amber with a small fizzy off-white head. Aroma of cinnamon and caramel. Taste is a hint of citrus fruit, heavy bitter pine and alcohol. The finish is very dry, piney and bitter. There isn’t a whole lot of complexity here, and what would be discernible seems masked by unbalanced bitterness and alcohol. Could be sweeter, more balanced, and if anything more drinkable. bum76 (23), port washington, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2005 A nice beer but not without flaws. Light carbonation acceptable. Very rummy, especially in the mouth. Alot of alcohol presence, nose and mouth. Nice fruity character, mainly banana, maybe some pineapple and I also want to say pumpkin but I’m not too sure about that. Pretty sweet, which is fine by me, I like the English style barleywines, but with a better integrated alcohol presence. Tingly peppery and floral hops skirt the edges. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 24, 2005 Candy-like sweetness to the fruity, herbal aroma. Clear amber coloured body with a low white head that recedes to partial cover with some sudsy lacing. Strong amber ale is mildly hopped and fairly sweet with moderate finishing bitterness. Strong alcohol warming. Medium body is somewhat syrupy due to low carbonation. Comes across to me as an Imperial Amber Ale. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 24, 2005 Pours a transparent deep copper with a frothy, well-lacing, off-white head. Has a nice, fresh citrus hoppy aroma with a pleasant toasty caramel malt balance. Body starts sweet and caramely malty with a good piney hop balance. Finishes crisp and clean, with a hint of grapefruit and little alcohol. A very drinkable and enjoyable barleywine and a steal at $6.29/6 pack.
