| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 15, 2008 One of those brews I’ve had a dozen times, and I suddenly realize I never reviewed it.This brew is your classic bock beer. Plenty of sweet bread malt in the aroma, melanoidins abound, interesting teases of chocolates, beefy texture but still with a lager crispness, a malt lovers paardise, rich German malts, little touches of chocolate and sweetness, may be the best traditional dark bock on the planet jfenglish (217), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 13, 2008 Bottle. Mahogany brown, almost black. Substantial cappucino head. Aroma is bready, malty, with roasted nuts. First sip is very good- malts are heavy up-front, with a nice bitterness to offset. Notes of chocolate, and licorice / anise. Great lacing- terrific beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 2, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep, deep brown color with a hint of ruby highlights and a think, full mocha head with excellent lacing. Aroma was slight but it had hints of caramel and chocolate malts, and had a little bit of a sweet overtone to it. Flavor is rich and full. A nice and heavy bock beer. Mostly malty with a touch of roasted coffee with a little chocolate and finishes a little sweet and leaves an almost molasses flavor as an aftertaste. The mouthfeel is nice and full, that’s about the only word I can use to describe it. RCL (1496), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 24, 2008 Updated: Jun 28, 2008Pours a dark, dark brown with hints of ruby around the edges. The head was minimal but did leave a good bit of lacing throughout. Smell was interesting with hints of fresh coffee up front on top of roasted caramel malts. Taste matched the smell but with a little less coffee and a little more toasted quality with caramel malts and a hint of smoke and chocolate on top of some molasses in the background. Mouthfeel is fairly light on this and the finish was crisp but slightly bitter. This brew definitely improved as it warmed up and is a very drinkable bock.
