Love the name--quite the expression growing up in my Norwegian-rooted family. Pours nearly black with a thick and bubbly but short-lived tan head. Huge cookie dough nose. Maybe some raisins or other dark fruit in there. Medium body with fairly soft carb, and plenty of rich malt-sugar-y flavors throughout the attack and mid-palate. Nougat, cookie dough, raisins, semi-sweet chocolate, brown bread. Tasty and dead on for the style. Nice lightly resined hop finish--not too intense or too lingering. Very well thought out and carefully made beer. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA

Malty/fruity nose brown sugar, red cherries, and grapes. Carmel and toffee malt flavors lead to the red fruit and chocolate underneath. Finishes dry a little burnt with cocoa hints. Tasty beer. kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 29, 2007 12 oz bottle. Clear dark purple. Some coaxing yields a small tan head, patchy lace. Sour caramel, dates and mild coffee. Tingly with a full body. Like a mocha milkshake just starting to turn; souring coffee and cream. Chewy with a tang. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA

Thank you thnak you thank you jay!!!! pours very dark brown with amber highlights. short brown head. quite dark for a bock beer. lots of chocolate malt in the nose. smooth crisp and easy to drink. sweetish chocolate cherry flavor is pretty sticky. a little prune is noticed on the finish. just a touch of hops help the beer finish cleanly. Aroma is of freshly baked dark bread. Also picked up some honey and nuts. Flavor is sweet and bready with some molasses, coffee, and nuts. The nutty aftertaste was the only part I’m so-so about. Tingly, smooth feel with a nice thick body. Nice brew. shrubber85 (3014), Wallhalben, Germany

A very nice chocolate, coffee, malt, and raisin/dried cherry aroma. Opaque dark brown color with moderate head. Creamy chocolate-caramel malt - moderate bock astringency and acidity/carbonation. This is a work of art - New Glarus truly nails German styles.
