Aroma is very malty with a hint of coffee and some earthy grass. Taste is an earthy malty honey. Also some notes of peanuts. This is a solid brew, a little sweet. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 9, 2004 Pours a thin coppery head that skeedadles very fast to the thinnest of films. Remarkedly tiny bubbles. Slight aroma of ham and biscuits with lots of butter. Taste smacks you like a back-talking stepchild. WHAP! Coffee and pork rinds! Butter creams and cocoa beans. Damn this is good. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 26, 2004 A muddy brown apperance with a moderate head. The aroma is chocolate. caramel and figs. The flavor is rather LARGE with a molasses, sour grape, and prune taste. It hides the alcohol quite well. The aftertaste is somewhat sticky and sour. A very well done Bock. Does New Glarus do a bad beer? I think not. BBB63 (4271), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 15, 2004 Bottle: Cola hued with reddish highlights, small fading head and little lace. The aroma has notes of caramelized malts, toffee, grape, apple, grains, and some coffee. The taste starts quite sweet and malty. Subdued fruits and a hint of coffee adds some depth but the taste fades way too quickly, leaving behind a chalky dry palate. Okay brew but NG does make so many more beers I like more. Bonus overall point for well hidden alcohol. Silphium (2152), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 12, 2004 This was a pretty standard bock, dominated by toasted malts, tannins, red grape skin, and hints of prune and raisin. Differs from some bocks in its nicely carbonated, non-syrupy, rather light body. Not all that complex, however; as the woody toasted malts dominated when the beer was cold and also after it warmed up. Thanks Matt (MrFacto) for the bottle. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA
