Commercial Description:
Inspired by the Trappist brewers of Belgium, our heavyweight Quadruple tips the O.G. scales at 25 degrees P. Master Brewer, Daniel Carey, sourced the Brett yeast that boldly frames this refined and complex strong ale. First coddled in our Oak lager tanks and then slowly matured in bourbon barrels. This is a bold beer that sips like a refined cordial of nutmeg, dried cherries and vanilla. Perfect for lying down or sipping by the fire tonight. http://www.newglarusbrewing.com/beers/unplugged belgian quad.html

Bottle. Clear amber colour with a nice head. Aroma of wine-like, malt and sourness. Flavour of malt, caramel and wine-like with a acidity finish, reminds me of a flemish sour.

12 ounce bottle from Woodmans in Beloit, WI, consumed at cellar temperature from a Corsendonk glass at my parent’s house in southern Wisconsin, June 20 2007, sitting out front under the stars with their dog on a perfect, clear night. Beautiful bright, oily translucent copper body, moderate tan/buff head, slow dying with chunky lacing....elegant full, vinous aroma, sherry and Burgundy, raisins and vanilla, slightly harsh and hoppy when opened but quickly smoothing out and sweetening....the tongue brings exceptional smoothness, juicy caramel-toffee-vanilla textures, only a trace of alcohol through the whole tasting, low-to-moderate yeastiness....a bit dry and burnt at the finish, slightly on the light side and a bit syrupy, a touch more carbonation would bring this to greatness, but as it is, very close. Another fine addition to this great line.

Bottle. A amber beer with a tan head. The aroma is fruity, light lambic like, yeasty with wood. The taste is sweet fruity, yeasty, light acid. Medium to medium body with a sweet light alcoholic finish.

Bottle. An odd beer to say the least. It went through about 3 different phases as it warmed and opened up. Here’s the overall: Wonderful nose of cherry, vanilla, oak, sweet malt, caramel and toffee. Pours rich copper with minimal head. Tons of flavor developing: cherry, malt, spices, alcohol, candied dark fruits... Rich and oily on the palate. Through all of this, it never pulls together 100%. Excellent offering, but I can’t wait to taste in a year or two.

Bottle courtesy of Gurst. Pours a copper brown with a thin head. Predominantly fruity/hoppy smell gives way to a much more robust taste -- deceptively thick and strong based on the look and smell. Flavor is strongly vanilla and caramel with hints of spice, berries, and nuttiness. Extremely drinkable.

Appears a copper, semi transparent with a small, white head theat fades into a tiny cap. Small speckles of lacing are left around the glass. Smell is of vanilla, brown sugar, light tartness, caramel, notes of cherries and raisins. Taste is of the aromas but a definite drop from the excellent nose with the cherry note becoming more evident in the mix. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, lightly boozy, with a caramel sweet finish.

Pours brown, moderate head. Thick mouth feel. Strong aroma of yeast and caramel. Flavors of caramel, fruit, alcohol, vanilla, and spice. Very heavy beer, but very excellent.

RBSG 2007 Grand Tasting

Bottle. Thanks Joebrew (I think?) for bringing this. This has the signature nose of a New Glarus beer. Some cherry, tobacco, caramel, vanilla, and light hops. Flavor is pretty decent, but to tell you the truth, I’ve had much better quads compared to this. Interesting take.
