| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 9, 2009 In short: An extra sweet Belgian-ish golden ale with interesting coniferous hops. Absolutely not a Quad (by trappist standards) but this is a drinkable Belgian-American bastard strong golden ale.
How: Bottle 12oz, sent to me by my man oakbluff. Thanks a lot Scott. Consumed soon after receiving it but bottle is probably 1 year of age or so.
The look: Cloudy dark orangy golden body topped by a very small beige head
In long: Nose is hard-candy sweetness and little wild twist (???like a saison yeast or something???). Taste is sugary sweet, very sweet, very very sweet. Candy sugar all over the place, peaches, green bananas(!?). Alcohol slightly apparent. Unexpected coniferous hops provide a very welcomed distraction. Description says this is inspired by Trappist brewers. If they mean that they drank way too many trappist beers one night and ended-up brewing something that was totally way off-style then I agree. pjweaver (133), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Boozy raisin, with some oak, caramel, and sweet malts. Pours a dark amber color, with a slightly offwhite head. HUGE boozy flavor with some red fruit, and some chardonnay-esque oaking. Thick warm mouth feel with some lingering booze. Drinks like a fizzy brandy. Great overall beer mcbackus (751), Merritt Island, Florida, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 4, 2008 Bottle acquired in New Glarus during a Labor Day visit. Pours with a thin white head and nice copper color. Aroma initially of bourbon and cherry and musty. Flavor of caramel and bourbon with hints of vanilla. Definite tase of alcohol and there is somewhat of a weak finish initially but gets better when warmed up a bit. It would be nice to get another bottle to try this Quad in a year or two. Still a nice Quad from New Glarus. BOLTZ7555 (1098), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 30, 2008 Bottle acquired via trade with iowaherkeye...Joey thanks!!! This one definitely doesn’t live up to the real thing. Faint vanilla, oak, and cherries in the aroma...sweet and malty in the mouth. Just not very complex and a bit thin. Alcohol (11% ABV!!!) is still present...this one could benefit with some years behind it. bierkoning (6066), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 26, 2008 Bottle @ home. Orange brown color. Malt, cherry and a hint of flowers in the aroma. Full bodied. Sweet but oaky flavor, malty with dried cherries and mango. Slightly alcoholic. Flowery hops and dried fruit in the aftertaste. powerful and flavorful beer with some complexity. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 25, 2008 Pours with a big head that goes away into nothingness, the beer is a clear deep amber color. There is a lot going on in the aroma here sweet malt aromas include raisins, and a bit of coco. This pairs well with a light oak aroma. The beer is delicious with dry and sweet fruit flavors of apple, prune, cherry, and raisin. There is a bit of oak in the flavor that mixes well with a subtle nuttiness and vanilla a flavors, this is very cordial like. I am surprised that there is brett in this, I don’t really taste that, but I’m keeping a few bottles around for a few years, we will see what develops.
