"Some people paint, some sing, others write ... I brew." - Daniel Carey

A few times a year, we will cut Dan loose to brew whatever he chooses, uncensored, uncut, unplugged. Always handcrafted, the bottle you hold is brewed for the adventurous soul. This is a very limited edition and we make no promises to ever brew this style again.

Napoleon hailed this tart beer style "the Champagne of the North." A lively and elegant masterpiece this Berliner Weiss is a kaleidoscope of fresh flavor. Barrel fermentation, Pinot Grigio, Riesling grapes and Wisconsin White Wheat are bottle fermented with five proprietary yeast strains. A connoisseur’s rare jewel both spirited and subtle, enjoy your sparkling toast under summer stars.

My bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- courtesy of MrFacto. Pours a cloudy pale yellow-gold with an average size mostly-lasting fizzy white head. Aroma: Yup, that’s a Berliner Weisse alright: Tart, in a good way, along with citrus fruit, some pepper and wood. Flavour of sour and tart fruit, a hint of banana and some citrus -- it’s a bit champagne-like. Acidic and quite carbonated. Medium bodied. Very good and a nice version of the style.

Clear pale, yellow-gold with a massive foamy head. Aroma of lemon grass, grape skins and crisp wheat. A lot of tart citrus and grape with an acidic background. Strong carbonation that and a crisp, tart finish. My first berliner and a very memorable one at that.

Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a good sized foamy, white head that slowly settles to a thin film. The aroma is very crisp of lemon zest, grapes, tart citrus, and some wheat. The flavor shows good sourness with more of the tart grapes and lemon zest to go with the crisp wheat. Some lactose on the back end smooths things a bit as to not get overly sour and gives just a touch of sweetness. Medium bodied with good carbonation that is almost effervesent like champagne. Goes down smooth with a nice dry and refreshing finish. This would be really nice on a hot day. Another solid brew from Dan Carey.

Bottle from pepsican, thanks Andy! Poured a lightly hazy, pale yellow color with a thin bubbly white head that fades to a film-like layer in the John’s Grocery tulip I got from Andy also. Tart, citric aroma with some light lemon peel, hay and wheat, some lightly funky bugginess and a distinct aroma of white grapes. Tart, crisp entry with some light citrus (lemon) and soft grape skin that is paired with a fluffy wheatiness and lacto that produced a light sourness that nips at the palate a bit. Moderate carbonation that is crisp and compliments the flavors well. Very nice, I wish there were more Berliner weisses around. Thanks again Andy.

Bottle. I ha this early on right when it was made, but I’m rating this one 6 months later. Pours hazy gold/pale yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of musty old basement, some sweetness. Wow, taste has really evolved. Very tart, much more so than originally, fruity, sparkling wine like. Finish is very sweet, like just pure sugar. Mouthfeel is like a champagne.

Thanks to lb4lb for sending me the bottle. Hazy amber color with a large, creamy head. Aroma of mostly lemons and wheat, but there’s something else that demands you to taste it and quit smelling. Taste starts out woody/oaky with biscuits, white wine, tart wheat and a little pepper and sweetness towards the finish.

Bottle and served in my Hoegaarden tumbler: Clean deep straw hue topped by a fizzy lasting head and some spotty lace. The aroma has notes of wet grains, wheat husks, grape like acidity, and a hint of pepper and wood. The taste starts with a moderate grape tartness supported by some pale malt and wheat. Salty mineral notes as well before the clean woody finish. The mouth feel is quite lively and refreshing but does become a "burp" machine near the end. A excellent overall beer and worthy of a try.

Bottle (12oz). Shared by blankboy with me and garthicus. Cloudy pale yellow-gold, average diminishing fizzy-creamy white head. Tart lemony aroma, a bit oaky and slightly bitter. Taste is tart, fruity - acidic, lively (someone said "champagne-like") and a little bit of vanilla/oak in the linger. Really, really good.
