Commercial Description:
Available July 2008

"Some people paint, some sing, others write ... I brew." - Daniel Carey

A few times a year, we will cut Dan loose to brew whatever he chooses, uncensored, uncut, unplugged. Always handcrafted, the bottle you hold is brewed for the adventurous soul. This is a very limited edition and we make no promises to ever brew this style again.

Napoleon hailed this tart beer style "the Champagne of the North." A lively and elegant masterpiece this Berliner Weiss is a kaleidoscope of fresh flavor. Barrel fermentation, Pinot Grigio, Riesling grapes and Wisconsin White Wheat are bottle fermented with five proprietary yeast strains. A connoisseur’s rare jewel both spirited and subtle, enjoy your sparkling toast under summer stars.

12oz bottle. Pale yellow/gold pour with a fluffy white head. Slightly spicy aroma, nice malt profile. Dry, sour flavor, spicy as well. Pretty good beer.

Bottles courtesy of Elric73 and iowaherkeye. Pours a very light and slightly hazy yellow with hints of orange underneath a fluffy white head that dissipates to a ring quickly and leaves very little lacing. The aroma has a lemony citrus lean to it with some toasted grains in the background. There is a bit of sour to it though not much. The flavor has a much bigger sour component than the aroma would suggest. There is a very tart lemon zest kick up front which gives way to a wheat presence not present in the nose. The finish brings the sour back to pucker the lips a bit. The mouthfeel is crisp, clean and very dry. The aftertaste reminds me a lot of a white wine. I’ve had very little experience with this style and was not expecting the tartness to this extent. it was good, but not one I’ll go back to often.

12 oz bottle, courtesy of my friend Karl. Pour is hazed yellow with a frothy and full three inch white head. Visible carbonation bubbles are very active. Head falls with thick lacing. Aroma of tart citrus lemons, soft earthiness and a rounded sourness. Nice soft nose. Taste is sour lemons right away, with it rounding into tartness than soft sweetness. Nice citric wheat thing going on behind that. Nice bright sourness - puckers the mouth without being overwhleming. Palate is thin to medium, active carbonation, really drinkable stuff. Glad you don’t like this one Karl, because I sure do. (7,4,8,4,15 - 3.8)

12 oz bottle courtesy of tjthresh. Bottle stamped 1588 08:34. Pour is hazed yellow white with a three inch pure white head that falls quickly. Aroma of tart citrus wheat and lemon sourness. Earth and natural nose. Taste is the lemon tart sweet citrus and earthy citric wheatiness of the nose. The earthiness has some wet dirt to it as well, which detracts from the overall experience. Palate is medium, crisp, with some pleasant bitterness to the clean finish. Overall, really drinkable beer. Thanks for giving me this one, Tom, I had been dying to try it! (7,4,7,4,15 - 3.7)

Bottle: The aroma is musty with some sour lemon and faint grassiness. It pours a transparent pale yellow with a small soapy white head. The flavor starts lightly sweet and quickly turns to a moderate musty and lemon tart finish. Seems rather simple, but very tasty and refreshing. Light bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle pours light straw yellow with a small fizzy head and no residual lace. The aroma is of plain yogurt. The flavor is tart plain Stonyfield yogurt and lemons. The palate is about as light and spritzy as a beer can get. Not my favorite by any means.

12-oz. Thanks, BVC! Hazy medium golden with slim white rim and plenty of sheeting lace. Big lemony chardonnay nose. Nice crisp light fizzy watery drinkable body. Lemony sweet and crisp. Beauty. Kind of one-dimensional, but very clean and well done, and such a pure pleasure to drink that it doesn’t matter.
