Commercial Description:
In 1985 before The Wall fell, and just after the birth of our youngest daughter, Dan followed his Siren’s Call making the true Brewer’s pilgrimage to the birthplace of modern beer; Pilsen. Inspired by the noble brew he scribbled notes; triple decoction, 100% Czech Moravian malt, fermentation in unlined oak tanks, generous amounts of Saaz Hops, Krausening and a three month ice cold lager. An elegant masterpiece of complexity lost to change in the Czech Republic. We resurrect and invest, by brewing without compromise, that exact Old World recipe and this is the brew - Bohemian Lager.

12oz bottle from the brewery. This is the second of two bottles I purchased. Served in a vintage footed pilsner glass that belonged to my grandfather. Lightly toasty, light woodiness, floral hops. The aroma is subtle, but complex. Brilliant clarity, very light straw color with a one fingered white head. The taste is lightly kilned malt, slightly toasty, with some light floral and spicy hops near the end. There is a lingering floral, earthy and woodsy flavor. Full bodied for the style with an absolutely clean, balanced finish. I am brewing a Vienna lager as I drink the beer and I keep on getting notes in the beer that I am getting from my wort. There is a element to this beer that you do not seem to get from a single step, all pils wort, it is more reminescint of my pils and munich malt. This is a very complex, very drinkable lager. I love it. Too bad it is not available in 6 packs as a regular or as a seasonal.

Bottle thanks to bman1113vr. Pours a pale golden color with decent white soapy head. Notes of vegetables, honey, grains, and paper. Doesn’t really do anything for me. Bottle might have been past its prime.

12 oz bottle from Roy’s Market (New Glarus, WI). Pours a straw grainy hue, bright and cheery, that moves into a fuller gold, a light haze, with a big foamy full bright white head that laces pretty well, surprising for the style. Aromas are grainy malts, cereal, a touch of pilsner malts with their familiar stink, noble hops and grassy earthy hops. Head dies to a foamy film that continues to lace well. A touch of citrusy lemon and honey come through, but very much so a traditional pilsner. Initial is lighter bodied, with lemon, grassy, earthy noble hops, cereal malts and grain, bread, dough, a touch of pilsner malts, moving into a firm grassy earthy hop presence sticking to the palate. Light bodied, still decent flavor profile, with a crisp grainy and earthy hop presence. Light bitterness, lemon, florals, grass, with cereal and grainy malts lying beneath. Very nice and sessionable, surprised me especially that very special head.

(Bottle via trade with pantanap, thanks Kan!) Pours lightly hazy lightly amberish gold with a few inches of white head in my pilsener glass. Aroma of honey, caramel and light pine. Mouthfeel smooth, lightly beefy and very lightly prickly. Flavor of honey and caramel maltiness overlain by a light-medium piney bitterness. Hugely drinkable and nice.

12oz bottle served in a shaker. Golden pour with a light haze and a thin head of off-white foam. Spotty lacing. The aroma consisted of fresh citrusy, herbal hops and bread dough. The flavor had a crisp Saaz bite and a nice bready, pilsner malt backbone. The hops are on the forefront, but the bitterness isn’t overwhelming or astringent. Very clean on the tongue. Medium to full-bodied with a light amount of crisp carbonation. I wish I could have had this when it was really fresh. Still drinking nicely at this point.
