Commercial Description:
Sublimely elegant this toffee toned bock is rich with a blend of Wisconsin and German barley malts. Over four months of resting in oak bourbon barrels gives this beer a wonderfully smooth body that will improve and mellow with age. Should you choose to enjoy this classic today, you can expect a treasure of vanilla, oak and carmel notes to be bolstered by hops from France, Slovenia and Germany. Wild Brett yeast sings in harmony to the tune of Bock. 20 degrees Plato OG makes this bourbon barrel a masterwork to remember.

From trade with Pantanap. This amber ale poured with a miniscule off-white head, eliciting a strong bourbon aroma. There is a vanilla malt flavor with a smooth whiskey background and a subtle sour finish. Very well-crafted.

Had this one last night amazing beer. New Glarus is one of the Mecca’s of the MIcro beer world. Full body and very satisfying. Great beer and its a shame that distribution keeps it from escaping Wisconsin now.

Beautiful, smoky looking, reddish-amber body with brownish-purple hues. Small, foamy white head that settles quickly to a wispy film with a well defined edge. Minimal spots of random lacing noted. The aroma is flat out astounding. Roasted caramel, nougat, and chocolate comprise the malt base. Vanilla flavored oak that has been softly kissed by bourbon emerges to tantalize the nose. Finally, dark fruits, including fresh cherries and ripe figs, reveal themselves to simultaneously add complexity and soften the bourbon edge. The flavor is sweet and malty up front, with caramel and chocolate playing big roles. A somewhat salty, smoky, woodsy flavor follows, no doubt influenced by the oak barrels. Again, dark fruits make there mark. The signature NG cherry flavor is obvious and very much welcomed. The finish is as complex and flavorful as any I’ve encountered, and it lingers for eons. Smooth, medium body. I let the final few sips sit for ages because I didn’t want the experience to end. This is an awesome beer!

GABF ’07. Pours amber with an average, frothy, off-white head, diminishing, fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (grain, cereal), average hops (perfume, grass), average yeast (sweat) with notes of vanilla and bourbon. Medium bodied, alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with notalush. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a thin, creamy linen white head that lasted beyond mid-glass and left some sheets of thick lacing. Very pleasant aroma of bourbon, malt and some vanilla. The flavor is very nice with bourbon, caramel, and vanilla all up front. As the flavor recedes, the bourbon makes a comeback and lingers beyond the swallow. There’s some alcohol warmth at the swallow as well, making this a perfect choice for a cool autumn evening.

Bottle from secret santa. Thanks! Tasted at Churchill’s with Ivan, Tim, Aaron, and Dave. Amber color. Clear. Very buttery aroma (not diacetyl) from the oak aging. Lots of melanoidin malt in the aroma. Nice. The slightest amount of brett tang and dryness. Tim and Ivan pointed out some apple notes, that I have trouble detecting. I think it’s tiny amount of brett sour. It’s quite subtle. 3.8-3.9

Poured amber with white head. Aroma of caramel and candy. Very sweet caramel flavors with some bourbon hints. Very sweet throughout.
