Commercial Description:
Sublimely elegant this toffee toned bock is rich with a blend of Wisconsin and German barley malts. Over four months of resting in oak bourbon barrels gives this beer a wonderfully smooth body that will improve and mellow with age. Should you choose to enjoy this classic today, you can expect a treasure of vanilla, oak and carmel notes to be bolstered by hops from France, Slovenia and Germany. Wild Brett yeast sings in harmony to the tune of Bock. 20 degrees Plato OG makes this bourbon barrel a masterwork to remember.

Light, caramel aroma with apple, butter, bourbon, vanilla, cherries; complex but not overbearing. Pours a reddish brown into my pink plastic flower cup (we’re moving, it’s all I could find...) Head dissipated quickly. Flavor is sweet and malty, loaded with flavors very similar to the aroma: caramel, dried fruit, vanilla, bourbon, earthy cherries. Finish is slightly dry, palate is on the lighter side, nice and relaxed. It is simple and complex at the same time... (how profound of me.)

12oz bottle, courtesy of Monger. Thanks, James! Pours a ruby-tinged mahogany color; off-white head with decent lacing. Awesome, generous aroma: definitely shows its barrel roots, but in a very reserved manner: toasty oak, overripe cherries, slight brett presence, and (Dan Carey be praised) cinnamon bears. Lovely aroma. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: relaxed carbonation; dense, viscous toasty oak, dried red fruits, and vanilla-tinged bourbon presence; light citrus hop character there as well; definitely not a pronounced doppelbock profile, but this is still fantastic, chewy, and unique. Medium, dried red fruits and caramel finish; slight brett, some toasty oak.

The Unplugged series from New Glarus is quite impressive. This dark copper body beneath a slight, fizzy head of white. The bourbon was evident in the aroma, along with dried cherries, caramel malt, vanilla, and oak. Medium to full bodied with a smooth feel. The flavor was nicely balanced with the bourbon, fruit, malt, and oak. Nice beer.

Bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry & lagerloather -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a slightly hazy orange-amber with a small diminishing beige head. Aroma starts with bourbon followed by caramel malt, some sugary sweetness, toffee and fruit -- smells pretty nice. Flavour of bourbon, caramel malt, vanilla, brown sugar and there’s a bit of hops thrown in there too. What’s the alcohol on this? Oily mouthfeel, average bodied. It’s good but I find it a little average overall -- it’s well made it just doesn’t rock my world.
