Commercial Description:
Sublimely elegant this toffee toned bock is rich with a blend of Wisconsin and German barley malts. Over four months of resting in oak bourbon barrels gives this beer a wonderfully smooth body that will improve and mellow with age. Should you choose to enjoy this classic today, you can expect a treasure of vanilla, oak and carmel notes to be bolstered by hops from France, Slovenia and Germany. Wild Brett yeast sings in harmony to the tune of Bock. 20 degrees Plato OG makes this bourbon barrel a masterwork to remember.

Courtesy of Quake1028, thanks buddy. Pours rich deep clear copper with off white head. It has a full complex aroma with barrel oak and booze notes mixing with sweet fruitiness, some mild fruity tartness and funk in the background. I also get faint chocolate, caramel and molasses. The barrel qualities take a back seat in the flavor where caramel, molasses chocolate and tart vague fruity flavors run the lead. Terrific balance is created here between the base beer, the barrel notes and the funk running around in the backyard. YUM!

Bottle courtesy of Pailhead. Pours a brownish read with barely any head. Aroma is dominated by oak, with a hint of bourbon and vanilla. Taste is oak and bourbon with a background of funk, nuttiness and cheese. Very nice beer.

Thin head which dissipates quickly. Complex aroma. Some definate bourbon overtones but also plenty of wet red oak, vanilla, butterscotch and some ripe raspberry. Damn good aroma. Color is a hazy caramel color. Definatly a bock-ish styled brew. Lots of sweet caramelly malts. More bitterscotch and vanilla. Creamy and smooth palate with a hint of bourbon at the finish along with more buttery flavors. Bit of ripe fruit also. A damn good brew. Very complex with flavors coming at you from lots of different angles.

No idea what to make of this. Really complex and unlike anything I’ve ever tasted.

4-5-08 bottle shared at tasting (thanks Charles!)
Fairly clear amber brown with a super fading head. Sweet bourbon smell. Flavor is vanilla bean, earthy, and sweet malt. Palate is a bit too unmoving and bourbon-like for me. Very light carbonation.

Thanks to whoever provided this at DLD. This was a big surprise for me. And I can’t believe that it is rated so low. Maybe this just caught me in a good mood. I didn’t know this was bugged, so the funk really caught me off guard. Nothing like any bock I have ever tasted. got some wood on the nose and in the taste. Nice red fruit with some vanilla in there as well. Soft well rounded sour that filled in all the holes. Reminded me in some ways of enigma, which I love.

Bottled. An amber beer with a rim of beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet malty again with notes of over ripe fruits, as well as caramel and a light note of alcohol, that leaves a slight burn in the throat.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear, amber/mahogany color. Classy. Very little head. Aroma is sweet and woody. Not unpleasant. The flavor is just a little too much for me though. The sweetness throws it off. There’s just too much candy, syrupy, woody sweetness. The palate isn’t too bad, a little thin, but this adds to the hard liquor aspect. All in all it’s a disappointment, but I’d recommend this to bourbon lovers or drinkers who can stomach sweet drinks. I, unfortunately, cannot.
