Commercial Description:
Seventh in our series, this is Dan's Gold Medal winning "Unplugged Cherry Stout." This ale is aged in Oak barrels to promote the spontaneous fermentation. Eight Wisconsin malted barleys combined with Wisconsin Montmorency Cherries make for a complex and sublime taste experience that you may never find again.

The idea of a wild stout has a definite appeal to me. The aroma is great, a light roasted malt with tart cherries, brown spices, and bit of wild funkiness. The latter fades somewhat in the flavor, but it manages to deliver a satisfying spicy tart cherry, molasses, and chewy malt blend. The finish is slightly tart without the cherry taste. Good good.

I have had this beer fresh, but the bottle I am rating had a year’s age on it, and that is how I will drink it from now on. Pours a dark reddish brown. Nice candi sugar, tart and sweet cherry, and cinnamon on the nose. The flavor is wonderfully balanced and shows off the verstility of the cherries. Nice brown sugar, cinnamon, and sweet cherry are blanced by a slight tartness. A wonderful aged beer that I will defiantely age in the future.

I will say strait out, that i am NOT a fan of fruit in my brew. That being said, this was not for me. Smells like cherries, tastes like cheeries mixed into a nice stout. I only had a couple sips of this and passed it on to some "fruitier" friends that were around. Wasnt overly sweet though, which was surprising. I love New Glarus, and they put out tasty brews, but my preference is not for there fruit beers.

Bottled. Pours a deep garnet color, almost black. Tan head with rosy hues, cool! The aroma of cherries fill the air as you pour, you don’t even have to get the glass near your face to smell them. The aroma is cherries and licorice; there may be a slight note of oxidation. Strong cherry flavors, some coffee and chocolate. Somewhat woody. Very tart and almost even a bit sour. Clean finish. This beer taste like it’s going to be sweet but the sweetness never hits the palate. Unlike anything I’ve ever tried. Although it takes a moment to get a handle on it, this is a great beer!

The pour is almost black with a slightly red tint to it. Smell is very interesting. Fruity, an sour, I think... THe taste is much of the same, sour fruits. A lot like wine or a winecooler :o Ok drinkable, if you like this style.

12 oz. bottle via trade with CaptainCougar - Pours a clear brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Aroma is tart cherry and oak. Quite nice. Flavor is bitter, tart berry. No malt flavor detected. Palate is thin and bitter. Light to medium body. Just needs a little malt backbone. An interesting beer and worth a try. Thanks Tom.

Reddish very dark brown with a disappearing white head. Aroma dominated by cherry (acid-y) and oak which has notes of vanilla and coconut. Sweet with fruity acid and a long lasting dryness. Very interesting experiment, but the coconut turned me off.

Deep amber with reddish notes and a small fine head with nice laces. Hmmm... Rather speciel this one. Coconut, flower, cherry, orange, yoghurt, spice, oak and so on! A taste I never have tried before... Really nice actually!
