Nice looking deep red to brown body with a firm head. The oak aging on this combines with the sweetness (and just a tad of tartness) of the cherries in a somewhat over the top way, and - try as I might - I couldn’t get into this one, as I felt it a tad imbalanced. By this I mean I wanted more of a stout presence. A noble experiment, and certainly a fine example of craft brewing, but not for me. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

Big sweet cherry and roasty malt aroma.
Flavor has a candy like taste to it along with ripe fruits and cherries.

Don’t know if any of you can relate to this but aroma was like walking in to a wooden floored smoke shop with all some cheery pipe smoke in the air. Also a good aroma of candy. Black body with decent head. Had a sweet cherry candy flavor an a syrupy body texure I think that is where the complexity comes in. Anyway it was good. undsioux7 (561), Cologne, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2006 Pours a dark dark reddish brown that lets a little light through, smallish head. Aroma of cherries and roasted malt. Flavor is very sweet with tartness coming though in the end. Too sweet for me. puzzl (2647), New York, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 20, 2006 Awesome stuff. Bottle from Holdenn, as an extra... a great one! Pours with little head, beautiful very very dark ruby. Appears black at first, but looking closer you can see it is relatively clear with dark red light peering through. It’d be hard to say more about that flavor and aroma than "chocolate-covered cherries," but even in it’s lack of complexity, it is so luscious and delicious that it’d be impossible to mark it down. Flavor does come across as a bit odd at first, and takes a bit of getting used to, but the cherry is so pure and unequaled that it is simply divine. New Glarus is king of fruit beers, no doubt about it. sunevdj (1784), Copenhagen OE, Denmark

Pours a dark cobber with a tanned foamy head. Smells of bee´s wax. Somewhat sour but the fruity honey flavors take over together with the spices. Lso hints of earth. Lots of honey too. Average carbonation. Honey finish. Reminds me of NG Enigma. Ofortuna (322), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 2, 2006 reddish brown color with a quickly disappearing head. Nose releases oak, vanilla and sour cherries. Palate gives way to the same, but appears unbalanced. Far too little of the stout characteristic and a little thin. The cherry taste is what saves it however. For an unplugged series a little let down. I think I’ll have to come back to this one and test again. tronraner (1933), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 27, 2006 Bottle, thanks to NachlamSie. Pours brilliant garnet with a fast beige head. The aroma is sour cherry with some light chocolate and molasses. The flavor has quite a bit of sour cherry, but it is balanced by a maltiness that resembles white chocolate. Hints of oak come out occasionally. Typical stout elements are present, but far in the background... This is actually amazingly well balanced. The finish is clean and slightly sour, giving it a kind of Belgian feel. I like this one a lot.
