Commercial Description:
Seventh in our series, this is Dan's Gold Medal winning "Unplugged Cherry Stout." This ale is aged in Oak barrels to promote the spontaneous fermentation. Eight Wisconsin malted barleys combined with Wisconsin Montmorency Cherries make for a complex and sublime taste experience that you may never find again.

Dark red pour with short, off-white head. The aroma is dominated by oak which seems magnified by the smell of cherry juice. Surprisingly, there is little hint of roasted malts that you expect in a stout. The flavor is more cherry than stout. In fact, there’s little stout in the flavor. Instead, you get very tart cherry on top of vanilla and sugar and a strong hint of wood. Thin to medium body with some stickiness, but more watery than most stouts. Moderate carbonation. Acidic finish. A lot of flavors going on here, but they don’t work together for me — especially the oak aging — compared to Bells Cherry Stout, for example.

12 oz bottle via trade with buckybeer (thanks Mark!). Pours a dark mahogany with an averagesizel head. Aroma with lots of fruity esters esters. I can detect cherries, plums, and various fruity esters. Light to medium bodied. This tastes more like a fruit beer than a stout. Nice tart cherry finish. A very good beer, but a stout? I think not....i was expecting a stout with some subtle chery flavor. Instead this is a total fruit explosion, albeit a very good one! THis stuff is EASY to chug..so tastey!

12 oz bottle with gputty. Garnet with almost no head. Thick cherry syrup and coffee nose, chocolate notes. Tastes like cherry coke syrup. A small wave of tartness come through in the finish.

Deep ruby/brown color. Chocolate and cola aroma. Flavor had a very slight cherry flavor, some chocolate and coffee, with an odd metallic and medicinal aftertaste. It was good, butthe aftertaste killed it for me. Maybe a bad bottle since it has such high ratings.

Wow I really enjoyed this. Very dark redish brown, little head. Smells like a cherry coke with hint of dark chocolate. Smooth milk chocolatey in first sip, but finishes like fresh dark chocolate covered cherries.

Thanks to Monger for the trade! Pours a dark cherry-cola, slight tan head with large-bubble formation at the edges. Two major players in the nose (odd image) - cherries show some tartness, sour qualities, while the oak aging puts forth a very enticing toasty vanilla aroma. You can tell it’s going to be interesting before even tasting it. The flavor is more cherry tartness than actual sourness; any sort of malty stout qualities seem almost far removed from the picture, as the mouthfeel very much relies on the balance between the cherry and oak contributions. Light finish. A really interesting brew.

Bottle. Poured brown-reddish color with a nice reddish-white head. Aroma is cherries, oak, chocolate, and dark malt. Flavor is chocolate covered cherries, a bit of sourness/tart, and oak. Pretty average on the palate, the finish of tartness takes some getting used to. A pretty good fruit stout. I wouldn’t mind trying some other beers similar to this one.

Pours with a deep red-brown body toped by a medium thick head with some lacing. The arom si bitter and full of oaky notes with a little chocolate. The flavor is sweet and full of cherry notes with a touch of chocolate. Not much of a stout. Medium to full bodied and smooth.
