| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Aug 30, 2006 Deep, deep mahoganey pour with lots of cascading bubble working their way up the tulip. The aroma is rather interesting, loads of fudgey chocolate and burnt malts mix well with heavy butterscotch notes. Whiskey and yeasty earth undermine the malts. The cherries don’t make a real presence until first sip, when the acidity shocks the tongue. Not what I was expecting. As I recalibrate my tongue, the intial shock subsides, letting the nice malts come through. The finish is fruity and tart. A good take on a fruit stout, I just wish I had a few more bottles to lay down and wait for the cherries to move further into the background. tjthresh (1774), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 30, 2006 Updated: Dec 15, 2006Really pretty PALE for a stout. Mahogany with a foamy darker tan head. The aroma is very chocolate covered cherries. Most of the stout character is completly covered. I notice in the desctiption that it oak aged. That explains a bit. The cherry flavor seems artificial to me. Lots of tannins. I wil conceed that this beer is interesting and different, but its not much of a stout. I don’t really enjoy it much. I’d like to thank !FastSTI for the chance to try it. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Aug 30, 2006 I decided to taste the Bells and New Glarus Cherry Stouts side by side. I’ve never had a cherry stout before. Bells poured a dark black body with a tan head and decent lacing. New Glarus poured a very ’light’ black body with a white head and had little lacing. Aroma in Bells was like any other stout, all the dark malts and notes, not much for hops. Had a small cherry aroma and a little in the flavor. New Glarus was overpowering with Cherries. It was hard to identify it as a stout. NG was very light bodied and very sweet. Sipping Bells after NG made it hard to taste anything cherry. It’s basically impossible to compare these. One is sweet and fruity with some stouty notes, the other is a stout with some light cherry notes. In the end it’s personal preference. Sammy (4013), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 17/20 | Aug 29, 2006 More cherry than stout, and good deal of sourness in finish. Reddish tinge to black stout, pinkish foam. Good amount of lace. Well carbonated and a tongue numbing, very drinkable as long as you like the sourness. Barrel woodiness mid sip satisfying cherry aftertaste. Thanks Flyingbison. realale420 (399), west covina, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 24, 2006 12oz bottle (thanks to buckybeer) poured a dark cola color with almost no head. Aromas of cherries, chocolate and oak. Taste was slightly astringent with a big cherry flavor and a tart finish. A good cherry flavor but not extremely impressed. zug4abby (287), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 23, 2006 Bottle shared by sick_boy282... thanks Alex! Pours a dark brown/maroon color with a small head and just a little bit of lacing. Aroma is oak and cherry. Flavor is cherry and metallic with definite oak hints through-out. Very bittersweet and metallic upon my first try but definitely enjoyed the beer more as I drank more and it warmed up a little bit. The oakniness of the barrels really comes through. Thanks again Alex!
