Spicy sweet cherry candy aroma. No Malt, no hops.
Starts tart on the tongue with some sweetness to balance. Very light thin body.
Very little stout characteristics, more like a cherry brown ale, but a very nice easy drinking beer. Just don’t grab one of these if you really want a stout. Another fine fruit beer from New Glarus. buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA

Obviously the aroma and taste is of ripened cheeries. A nice combination of sweet and tart flavors. Malt is noticable also. Very enjoyable. TomDecapolis (3172), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 29, 2006 Thanks to hopdog for the trade. Pours a darker brown with lots of hazy ruby red when held to the light. Head was medium tan that left some lace and diminished down to a small head that then sustained. With the aroma you are first hit with a the cherry which then moves into some vanilla and oak, pie crust and light chocolate. The flavor is a tart yet sweet cherry pie, the oak compliments things nicely and adds a bit of vanilla depth. Interesting mix of a stout and fruit beer. tranum (34), delafield, Wisconsin, USA

A strong taste of cherries and a great aroma and appearance. It goes down smooth and has a wonderful aftertaste. The oak taste only adds to this wonderful beer. I will be sad to see this beer become retired. (I only wish dan could keep this one as one of the year rounders!) LeopoldStoch (201), Green, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 27, 2006 A lot of cherries, vanilla, and oak come through on the nose of this beer. A lot of sour dark/black cherry taste and the oak is more prevelant in the taste then I would have expected. A good beer, but I am having a hard time with what to make of it. I read one review of it in which the person said this beer couldnt decide whether or not it wanted to be a stout or a fruit beer. I think that is a pretty good way to describe it. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 25, 2006 Nice translucent reddish-brown pour...minimal head that never develops. Cherry tart nose...some coffee-maltiness too. Flavor leans toward a sour cherry flavor, light malt mix, maybe some mocha notes. Thin mouthfeel....the sourness is more evident as I consume this. Not horrible, but certainly disappointing. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 24, 2006 bottle-sampled many times over the past few months. deep ruby red with a fuzzy off-white head. nose of vineous cherries, chocolate bar, and light coffee. Truely a nice and unique nose. flavors are pretty much match the nose-cherries, chocolate and light roast. body is very similar to the rest of the fruit beers from NG-high carbonation and medium with some acidity. Truely a fruit beer-unique and tasty! ChristianSA (368), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 16, 2006 Bottle (thanks to Kevin). Sweet/sour aroma as you open the bottle. Dark brown with a reddish tint. Small head which is quickly reduced. As you pour a hefty artificial candy like aroma hits your nose followed by notes of stale red wine and vanilla. The flavor is dominated by the same candy like sweetness as the nose followed by some caramel, and almonds. Balsamic vinegar shows up as it warms. I do not taste much stout in this one. Rather fizzy with nice mouth feel below the Co2. The beer gets better as you get down the glass, but it it tastes artificial (even though it probably isn’t). Too sweet for me. It tastes like a light stout with cherry concentrate and sugar added at bottling and then pasteurized??? Rerate 6 minutes later: Had it with a piece of my mother in laws brownie, which made it better (from 2.7-3.1) - but still not beer I would like to try again.
