Tasting with Casey, Traci, Craig, Stella and Loz 27-09-08 this bottle brought along by Casey Pours dark brown with light beige head. Big fruity vanilla nose, some mushroom also on nose. Loz got copper coin taste in mouth, I know exactly what she meant. Lovely quirky tang to this. Whilst I can’t describe what it is exactly I will say that New Glarus beers or the ones from this series of Unplugged that Casey has shared with me have a real signature, thumbprint to the taste, just wish I could describe it accurately. Quite a stunner.

Aroma was of nice roasted malt, chocolate, some good cherry aromas, with some oak. The appearance was beautiful, but perhaps a little odd for a stout, it was a very very deep ruby red color, and had a nice slightly pinkish head. Flavor was amazing, with roasted malt and chocolate, however the flavor of sour cherries dominated this beer. If you can find a bottle snatch it up, I know I would.

Sampled at Hamilton’s with WeeHeavySD, thanks to Blair for sharing it. Pours a deep, dark red with white lacing. Tart and sweet cherry and malt aroma. Tangy taste of cherries, with great malt notes. Lingering tart cherry taste. Great cherry beer.

Big thanks to holdenn for this awesome treat, I’ve been really wanting to try this one. Murky deep red-brown with just hazy swirl of a tan head. Dirty, older cherry aroma with sweet malt and aged vanilla, very nice. Cherry sour, very much like belgian red and a flemish sour, a little dark malt but not very much like a stout at all, a little acidic. Medium to thin body, not very carbonated. Very drinkable and tasty, this is quite amazing.

20070622 Not sure who this was from, maybe Dodd. Big cherry aroma is pungent. Sweet, cakey (and doughy). Yummy chocolate and cherry desert would be good with cake.

3-23-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to buckybeer!
Dark brown pour with a decent short lived head and no lacing. Smell is tart cherry mostly and some chocolate too. Not a fruit beer fan at all but this is surely one of the best I’ve had. Flavor is malt and fruit (not very bold though). Finish is fruity - actually more so than the flavor.

Pours a very dark brown in color with some ruby highlights. Smell is tart cherries and some chocolate.
Smell is the same as the smell, but not impressive. Not my favorite New Glarus offering.

Huge thanks to buckybeer for the bottle!
Pours a dark, reddish black with a small, medium lived beige head. Smell is chocolate covered cherries. Both sweet and tart with cherries being very prominent in the nose. Taste is tart cherries and a very bright taste at first. Moderately sweet, and definitely more fruit beer than stout, and I didn’t really get any roasty character. Acidic, tart, sharp cherry flavor reminiscent of sour cherry juice with a dull finish that could either be the beer just being a bit old or perhaps the woodiness of the oak... Lively mouthfeel, crisp and bubbly and slightly puckering and drying, yet slightly thin bodied. I really enjoyed this one overall!
