Commercial Description:
This Eisbock was lagered a full year and then frozen to incomparable smoothness. This is a big and complex beer, suitable for laying down or consuming immediately, serve at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. A few times a year, we will cut Dan Carey loose to brew whatever he chooses, uncensored, uncut, UNPLUGGED. Always handcrafted, the bottle you hold is brewed for the adventurous soul. This is a very limited edition and we make no promises to ever brew this style again. Eisbock is the first of our Unplugged series of beers.

Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. Big malty aroma. Loads of toffee and molasses with light caramel and a touch of apple. Pours a dark mahogany a little transparency. Small off-white head fades very quickly to a thin ring around the edges of the glass. Flavor seems a little watery. Toffee, molasses, and buttery caramel up front, with a touch of wateriness. Light nutty finish. Don’t get any strong alcohol presence in flavor or warmth. Somewhat light for an eisbock. The light wateriness goes away as it gets closer to room temperature. Probably a little too cold to start, but gets better as it sits. The more I drink this the better it gets. Three times within the sitting I’ve bumped up the score.

12 oz. bottle. my anticipation is high as I crack open this Unplugged NG brew. aroma of dark dried fruit with hints of vanilla. appearance is dark brown with a red edge. flavors of the same dark pitted, dried fruit, vanilla, caramel malt, some toffee and banana bread. as it warms, the abv becomes slightly more apparent but not so much that it gets in the way of the flavors. also, one of the most full-bodied bock style of beer I’ve had. this is the first Wisconsin beer in a shitload I just picked up, hopefully everything else is as great as this one!

Thanks to Heemer, Footbalm, and Clark VV for this beer! 12oz bottle, served colder than ideal @ 48° in my NB worthy glass. Pours brown with maroon highlights and a short lived, wispy head. The aroma is caramel malt, raisins, plums, maple syrup, spiced rum? The beer is very full in the mouth. The flavors are raisiny, plums, lots of caramel, toffee, nuts, vanillla, a bit of spice. I let this warm up to 61° and the flavors are intense. Finish is sweet, but not cloying; there may be a touch of offsetting bitterness at the end. The alcohol is not very noticeable, it’s there, but not over the top.

This is the same batch as last time, but nearly 4 years later. How old is this beer, 4-5 years? The oxidation plays a big part in the aroma, but that aroma is pretty nice-rich, dried dark fruit, some (triple bock) soy sauce notes, a little toffee. The mouthfeel is luscious. The taste is dried dark fruits (prunes, figs, raisins), alcohol, and some slight white pepper. Tasty.

Amber with a small tan head. Thick rich malty aroma: caramel, some chocolate, toffee, dark fruits (cherry, fig, raisin). Malty body with fig, toffee, caramel, slight cherry. Very smooth and light.

Bottle...poured a dark ruby-brownish color with a small head. Aroma is sticky sweet, toffee-caramel malts, cherry fruitiness. Taste similar, finishing with a little bitterness, but a lot of malt flavor and a blast of alcohol. Medium bodied with little carbonation. I liked this one.

Pours deep carmel brown with a layer of tan head that settles quickly. Profoundly sweet aroma, with elements of brown sugar, toffee and carmel. More carmel in the flavor and very sweet, like some drinkable bock-pastry. Yet in spite of that, it still manages to be very pleasant to sip. Usually strong beer that leans heavily on sweetness just makes my mouth tired, but this is really nice! Velvetly smooth on the palate, with a pleasant subtle sparkle that suprised me given the low carbonation. I have tasted this once before, years ago, and didn’t care for it. I’m thinking part of the problem last time was that in my ignorance I just served it at fridge temps. This time I tasted it much warmer...starting at 60ºF or so and warming further with the second pour. So much more interesting and flavorful that way. Thanks Hezon, for sharing the last of this great beer!

12 oz bottle. Ive had this stashed away for about a year but unsure of how old it is. Regardless, reddish brown color with a thick but short lived head. Taste is mostly sweet malts with an occasional hop somehow making it to the forefront. Dark fruits are in there also along with some nuts and chocolate. If I’m making this sound like some kind of desert, it’s not that sweet but it is malty.

Poured from a bottle. Thin, rapidly disapating off-white head atop a clear mahogany body that still has slow carbonation. The aroma is delicious. Light wheat bread dough, brown sugar, licorice, cinnamon, sweet but not sickly sweet aroma. There’s also hints of maple syrup and star anise. The flavor is leather, sweet malts, light pepper, light licorice, there’s also some Dominican tobacco going on in the flavor too. The palate is yummy too.
