Commercial Description:
This Eisbock was lagered a full year and then frozen to incomparable smoothness. This is a big and complex beer, suitable for laying down or consuming immediately, serve at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. A few times a year, we will cut Dan Carey loose to brew whatever he chooses, uncensored, uncut, UNPLUGGED. Always handcrafted, the bottle you hold is brewed for the adventurous soul. This is a very limited edition and we make no promises to ever brew this style again. Eisbock is the first of our Unplugged series of beers.

A damn pretty beer if nothing else. Nice ruby with light tan head that diminishes quickly, but never dissolves. Sweet nose of rich malt right up through the first pull. Quickly washed clean by alcoholic effervesence. Raisins and caramel..more alcohol. Smooth is way too weak a word..try velvet and creamy. A caramel sundae of mouthfeel. A late fall beer if there ever was one. Too bad it’s May.

This eisbock pours with a clear red body topped by a thin head wtih some lacing. The aroma is very sweet and full of candy sugar. The flavor is sweet and also full of candy sugar with a slight bitterness. Medium bodied and smooth with a slight warming.

5/14/2004 - Clear, dark mahogany. Minimal off-white head. Rich sweet cherry aroma with oak hints. Alcohol is pretty noticable, but not bad. There is a slight chocolaty cherry oak taste with a brown sugar sweetness. Flavor is very good, but maybe a little light. And alcohol gets in the way a little bit. 8 / 4 / 7 / 3 / 15. Update 2006 - I like the way this has come along.

It's a well made beer, I suppose, and the style is rare, but I just can't appreciate it very much due to the high alcohol content. The taste is that of a barleywine and there's raisins and smokiness in there. Lots o' alcohol taste, too. Not enough sweetness, perhaps, to mask that alcohol. Dark burnt malt and some fruit notes. Interesting complex aroma, too, of molasses and Old Horizontal. Nice, but I just didn't enjoy it that much.

A potent aroma of raisins, toffee, prune, and smoke wafted from the bottle upon opening. After the pour cherries and soy became apparent. Body is a nice orange-red, topped by a thin off-white head. Flavor is sharp and tangy with toffee, smoke, and layered caramel leading to burnt raisin notes. Develops a strong, sweet, somewhat harsh cherry/alcohol flavor. Doesn't reach the sublime level of Kulmbacher Eisbock, but this is a very nice beer nonetheless. Thanks Jason (jcapriotti) for the surprise!

Dark ruby amber colour. Small tannish beige head. I love the rosehips, dark fruity malts, big sweet nose. Sweet malts, molasses, toffee, cherry, nutty/almond. Faint butter, graham cracker, bready, a blast of yeast, cocoa, and terrible beauty. This is luscious, velvety smooth, delicate and complex. This beer provides great finesse, hidden alcohol, and a faint hoppiness that is quite enjoyable. I dig it...But Kulbacher is badass!

2003 version, sampled early April ’04: Garnet/plum, translucent body with a dense but quickly diminishing white head. Wonderful bready malt aroma with a light plum effervescence. I also sense some meaty, nut aromatics. I can’t keep my nose out of the glass . . . though the palate lacks any real carbonation, the flavours are complex and full: sweet alcohol laced raisins, gooey rye bread dough, burnt cedar, SweetTarts, dark red plums and very clean malt. Outrageous!
