Commercial Description:
This Eisbock was lagered a full year and then frozen to incomparable smoothness. This is a big and complex beer, suitable for laying down or consuming immediately, serve at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. A few times a year, we will cut Dan Carey loose to brew whatever he chooses, uncensored, uncut, UNPLUGGED. Always handcrafted, the bottle you hold is brewed for the adventurous soul. This is a very limited edition and we make no promises to ever brew this style again. Eisbock is the first of our Unplugged series of beers.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy and Dave B, my bottle from Ughsmash. Poured cloudy deep ruby with a small off-white vanishing head. Strong woody-yeasty aroma of roast malt, alcohol dark steeped fruits (raisins, persimmons) - very nice. Burnt prunes and deep roast malt in the flavour, somewhat watery, but woody and yeasty - long bitter finish considering the sweet thick malt that is the backbone of this one. Thick yet watery mouthfeel, syrupy and still - really nice - not bad, just lacks oomph. Pales next to the Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock.

Courtesy of Goldtwins <P> Lots of concentrated caramel, brown sugar, rum-raisin and pumpernickel aromas waft up from the glass. Dark brown with lots of red hints...almost no head..just a wispy white smattering. A big dose of caramel and sweeter rum-raisin flavors in the fore. More malts some spice, toffee and heartier bready notes in the middle. Finish is sweet and savory with more caramel and a little bit of cocoa. Quite tasty. There is a peppermint-like spiciness that comes out in the aftertaste as it warms.

Any first impressions?
-A predictably furtive ring of head sits atop the dark burgundy.
-Sweet maltiness is healthily producing fruity, black bean-like pils malt character.
-The scrumptious maltiness lays out plenty of candied berries and sensuous toffee.
-The soft carbonation offers a cozy mouthfeel, aiming at sipping.

What if you dig deeper?
-The alcohol level is very well intergrated.
-Prunes, dates, figs all benefit from a vibrant soil.
-Sweetness isn’t overdone, while remaining the beer’s main trait.
-This is a very competent strong bock, with all the necessary attributes of the style.

Bottle; no date.

Thank you 1FastSTi. I served this in a snifter glass, and enjoyed it while I cooked my kid some mac and cheese. When poured aggressively a medium head developed and fizzed out just as quickly. Multi-dimensional red-cherry-mahagony color. Aromas of honey, maple, chocolate chews, and a background hoppiness, along with some alcohol make this truly a man’s beverage. Each drink is very unassuming for what I expected to be an over-the-top robust beer. Quite the contrary. This beer is very quaffable. What stands out to me is the bitterness. There is some dried cherry, or maybe raisin/date flavor, but I really enjoy the bitterness. I was initially upset with the thinner body, but this would not be nearly as good with a fuller body. Bravo Mr. Carey. Please brew this fine beer again some day. Oh yeah, and thanks a million 1FastSTi.

Pours a deep amber brown yet clear and a thin off white head. Aroma had a slight medicinal character to it, but also was very sweet and caramel-like. Also had some nutty roasted malt character, along with some light esters and some herbal phenols. Alcohol, and smoke are also notcied in the aroma as well as flavor. Thick sweet caramel malts, melanoiden, and toasted malts all noticed in the flavor. Slightly cloying, but very smooth palate. Nice finish- lightly bitter.

12 oz bottle, courtesy of footbalm via trade! Pours a hazy, cloudy golden brown color with a thin beigey ring of bubbles around the glass. Aroma is rich and sweet, figgy, molasses, brown sugar, moist forest earth and subtle herbs. Flavor is also sweet, dark over-ripe fruits of the fig and prune variety, more earthiness with hints of decaying herbal matter. Full body and gentle carbonation.

Much thanks to hopdog for bringing this over and egajdzis for deciding to crack it open... Appears a hazy amber with a light off white head and scattered lacing. Smell is of super malty caramel, vanilla, cream, oak, whisky. Taste is of sugary malt with vanilla and nutty light maple notes mixed with whiskey coming through. Mouthfeel is sugary with alcohol noticeable.

Thanks to egajdzis and hopdog. Appearance has a clear cherry hue and a fading beige head with light carbonation. Pleasant aroma of almonds, vanilla bean and some alcoholic heat. Nice concentrated malt, roasted nuts, and dark fruit peel flavors. A very enjoyable sipper.
