It’s like Salvator, but more complex. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Pours medium tinted, radiant brown with a thick, 1" foamy head. Smells very malty with a discernable alcohol presence. Taste is all encompassing - bright, lively caramel and roasted malts. Slightly oaky, with a tobacco edge and burnt aftertaste. Gets a little more acidic and syrupy as it warms. This is a great winter warmer, but I’d be willing to drink it during any season. I know, some sacrifice, right? Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA

Pours ruby red with a faint but stubborn tanish ring of bubbles around the glass. Smells of nuts, brandy, scotch, toffee and cherries waft from the glass. Tastes nutty with toffee, butterscotch, scotch, and a touch of raisins and apricots. Mouthfeel is buttery and semi-flat. The alcohol is very well masked in this one. I hope they do another batch eventually as this stands alongside their rasberry fruit beer and cherry fruit beer. SpecialSauce (47), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 14, 2005 This beer is all about roasted barley, with notes of caramel and malt. Really a fantastic beer, my favorite unplugged to date. The palette suits the flavors, moderately tight. Falconseye8 (525), Cartersville, Georgia, USA

Again this gem comes from John (JPDIPSO). No head out of the bottle. The caramel and coffee surges to the front of your tastebuds and says hello I’m pretty damn awesome!!!! Tastebuds don’t lie, this is much much better than Aventinus. Awesome beer. Dark Ruby color, lots of gravity in every mouthful. This is simply a great beer!!!! No exceptions or exclusions. You want great beer, Wisconsin has it and these guys have lassoed a big chunk of the greatness in every drop of this beer. Simply incredible beer. Prostman (1077), Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 5, 2005 This was a really great beer. It poured a nice deep chestnut color with a tan colored head. The flavor was roasty, with some caramel hints and the alcohol is well hidden. Recommended. MaiBockAddict (1499), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA

Fantastic aroma of brown suggaa, molasses, toffee, raisins, etc, that reminds me of the great doppels and eisbocks from Germany. Big malty flavor with raisins, brown sugar again, figs, prunes. Very smooth and well conditioned. This is very nicely made. I wish it was available in NJ.
