Commercial Description:
Do not waste time attempting to box this brew into some esoteric guide to styles. This is Dan’s bold creation. His passion for unfiltered Weiss collides with Cascade Hops inventing our Imperial Hefe-Weizen. Dry hopping boldly rules over Wisconsin red wheat and our special strain of Bavarian yeast. At almost 20 O.P. this is the super mac daddy of Weiss beers. Decoction mashing was followed by excessive dry hopping to create a fierce onslaught of clove, cinnamon and citrus all in this living beer. Don’t bother waiting to enjoy - the time is now.

Before Sune (sunevdj) came out to San Diego, he made quite the tour of the beer world. This is one beer he brought along the trip, and he kept it with him to share with us at toncatchers tasting. Lots of banana and clove on this rather dark golden beer. Some bitterness that I hadn’t expected on the aromas, but the flavor was more classic hefe. Pretty darn good.

Pours attractive apricot with two finger thick off white head. The nose and flavor are sweet with honey, apricot and sugars. The mouthfeel is coating, on the verge of cloying.

Bottle, pilsner glass. Pours a cloudy apricot-orange. Huge frothy white head supports itself mushrooming above the glass, great retention and lacing. Wispy curtains of sediment raining down through the beer. Big bouquet of carbonic yeastiness, pleasantly musty, shot through with cardamom and prunes. These are the principal aromas and flavors sipping through the suds, too. Presents as a tropical fruit juice cocktail, with a hoppy edge to balance the malty sweetness, pineapple, orange, a hint of banana. Initially, cardamom, maybe some cinnamon in the spice department, before the beer turns hot. The alcohol burn is definitely here, but it’s well-complemented by cloves and peppery prickliness, and here that prune element in the nose comes into its prime, like a good plum brandy. As the fruit fades, the hops take the stage again, more floral than grassy, warm lingering on the tongue, as the beer turns dry in its final aftertaste, which is quite pleasant (or maybe that’s just me happily buzzed halfway through the glass) and seems to last forever. Wow.

I like the style, thank you Bakerslp for the trade. clove, cinnamon and citrus are claimed and in the mix, though I do not think they contributed to my liking it, but they did to the aroma. Very drinkable,if only I had a bomber to share, above average mouthfeel. Dark colour and good head.

Bottle from monger. Hazy orange in color. Big frosty head, that sticks around. Aroma of citrus hops and banana. Taste is an upfront bitterness followed by a nice banana/yeasty taste. Only to be followed by aftertaste of bitter hops Very enjoyable. Low carbonation and a light texture. Easy to drink. Great brew. Thanks James!
