Burnt malty aroma, chocolate, plenty of bite. Mouth is a bit smoky, that catches the back of the throat, malty and very drinkable. Very good. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 31, 2008 Not a fan of Rauchbiers and this one leaned too much in that direction. Poured out nice and dark, almost black, with a full tan head. The aroma was ash. Folks talk of bacon, but I don’t get it. I LOVE bacon, the smell of it, the taste of it. But I never get that in heavily smoked beers. I get the aroma of ashes and a flavor akin to adding water to the bottom of your grill after cooking. This wasn’t quite that bad but the smoke didn’t have the subtlty of ofther smoked beers I’ve enjoyed. Couldn’t get past it in the aroma or the flavor to really enjoy this brew but it wasn’t as bad as the Rauschbiers I’ve endured.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 30, 2008 12 oz bottle via Mys Swap 3.0 (thanks monger!). Been looking forward to this one. Pours near black with a large tan head. Nose is of course smoky...so smokey that i don’t get anything but smoke! AS for the taste, there is what i THINK to be some roastiness under the smoke, as well as a bit of sour cherry and chocolate, and perhaps some raisin. The smoke dominates but is not overkill though. Body is medium and carbonation is moderate. This is one of the better smoked beers i have had. xmarcnolanx (806), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA

Taste is slightly sour, woodsy, touch watery. However, very nice.
Finish is woodsy, lingers. Doesn’t sour on the finish, like I’d expect. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 29, 2008 Thanks to terminus for sharing this smoked porter. Pours dark brown with a brownish hue and deep tan head. The aroma has lots of smoked malt with wood and peat, some chocolate and only light amounts of bacon. Medium body with moderate carbonation between soft and sharp. The flavor starts off with smoky malt, some chocolate and clean roast. The finish is clean and lighter than expected. Not my favorite style by a long shot, but it is good for what it is. amishcaravan (237), Winona, Minnesota, USA
