| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 16, 2008 Bottle from trade with Fantomas23. Dark brown, nearly black pour with a thin tan head. Nice rich smoky aroma over roast malts. The smoke is not too intense or meaty. The taste has a touch of smoke on it, but the underlying porter is nice and roasty. I’d prefer more smoke, but the base beer is well done and extremely drinkable. Gurst (338), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 16, 2008 Dark ruby brown color. Smells like wood and smoke. Tastes malty and salty. Rich, blackened grains are most apparent, behind that comes a little smoke, fruit, and blood, but without the metallic twang. Good, highly drinkable, and light, but maybe too light. I can’t decide. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 14, 2008 Another bottle courtesy of drewbeerme. Pours a deep ox blood color with a one finger foamy tan head. Great lacing. Nose is bacon and ham cooked over a campfire. Palate is less smokey than I anticipated given the nose. Hints of smoke, mild coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Mouth feel is a little watery than expected, but it’s still a nice smoked porter. jah noth (1020), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 14, 2008 Charcoal and bacon waft above this deeeep crimson pour with a quickly dissipating khaki head. Nice chocolate flavor with baconlike smoke and a nice hoppiness. Creamy mouthfeel. Just a delicious brew. Thanks Adam! dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 13, 2008 pours deep deep brown, rich frothy tan head, slight lacing. the aroma has a little smoke, a hint of bacon and a good measure of malty sweetness. the flavor has more smoke than the aroma suggested, but still the sweetness seems to dominate the smoke and bacon (i would prefer the other way). this brew is a touch sweet for me, but as the beer warmed, i warmed to it, and enjoyed sipping it while a read a book. a comic book perhaps, but a book none-the-less. this isn’t masterpiece theater after all.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 12, 2008 Bottle: Pours a dark brown with a reddish hue. Nice creamy beige head. Aroma is roasty malt, bits of sweetness, and faint smoke. Taste is roasty, toffee, and light smoke. Just a hint of chocolate. Nice how the smoke remains a compliment rather than the entire focus. Thanks Degarth! BückDich (4856), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 11, 2008 Bottle: Tawny mahogany color, nice tan head and some clean lacing. The nose is roasty with some caramel and sharp burnt vanilla, some bright fruity roast that might be perceived as smoke but it doesn’t fool me. The flavor is smoked though, but it doesn’t come until the tail. A dry and moderate body and mouthfeel melds into a healthy sweet malt and hop tail. Nice balanced finish, good roast and smoke duo. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 11, 2008 Dark beer with a nice tightly compacted foamy head. Flavor is smooth and more smooth. Roasted lightly smoky malts with a bit of fruitiness and some chocolate. Just a bit of dry hop at the end to clean it up. I really like the way this beer was approached, with the smoke making itself known but not becoming the primary aspect of it. Medium body. Nothing but deliciousness here.
