Thanks to badbeer. Pours deep, dark brown color with a somewhat thin but resilient off-white head. Head is somewhat sticky and leaves a bit of lace down the glass. I could smell the smoke as I opened it on the counter. That’s about all that I get is smokey with a faint maltiness. Awesome. The taste is the best part. This beer explodes with flavor as it crosses my lips. Lots of smoke and super toasty malts abound on this one. The mouthfeel is the second best part, the carbonation is vibrant and active. It helps to move the flavors around my mouth. This beer is full bodied too, more than any other porter I’ve ever had. More on the way and I can’t wait. beerinmarch (2829), Washington, USA

Pours very dark brown, bordering on black, with a soft khaki head. Roasty chocolate nose with a woody smoked backbone. Smooth on the palate with a smoked character that doesn’t jump out at you and take over, more sits back and compliments the soft sweetness. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 7, 2008 Courtesy of gillard. Poured dark brown with tan head. The aroma hits you with a pulse of smoke and wood before faint roasty malts are noticed behind the smoke. The taste begins with nice smokiness that leads into bacon wrapped wood. There’s also faint roasty malts hidden somewhat by the smoke. So the base beer is a bit lost. I do enjoy the level of smokiness here. It seems to be in the middle of a Aecht Schlenkerla Urbock and Alaskan Smoked Porter for smoke strength with the Urbock being the beast of smoked brews. IrishBoy (2718), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 6, 2008 Pours a very dark brown with a slightly smallish head. Aroma of smoked meat, chocolate, and a bit of coffee. Nice mouthfeel, smooth and easy to drink. Solid beer in a style that I’m not really all that crazy about. masonjer (564), Holt, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2008 thanks to Pantanap for letting me try this one. Poured a translucent dark brown into the snifter. Smell was bacon, smoked malt and some background chocolate. Taste was nice and smooth, like a full breakfast in a bottle, smoke came through nicely and rounded out the chocolate, dark roasty character and distant hop bite. One of the best smoked beers I have had. JK (2961), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Good smoke aroma and flavor, but not as full as something out of Bamberg. Very little carbonation, some lactose, wood, and medium sweet malt. Smoke throughout, but I would like more smoke aroma and flavor. MoDog (927), Griffith, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in an English pint glass. This porter poured a dark brown with a large, slowly fading head of dark tan foam. A decent amount of lacing was left around the glass. The aroma of the beer was made up of bittersweet chocolate, charred malts, and moderate smoke. The flavor consisted of mocha, vanilla, burnt wood, smoke, cold coffee, and a mild bready yeast note. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with light carbonation. A nicely done porter, but I would have prefered the smokiness to be a bit more aggressive.
