Commercial Description:
Smoke on the Porter began with our neighbors at Hoesly’s Meats. Their smoke house aromas waft through our door creating a special kind of decadence that must be shared. Wisconsin barleys were generously cold smoked with apple wood by the Hoesly family. Brewmaster Dan then harnesses dark malts smoked in Bamberg to create a team that steps out as a creamy smooth black brew that will forever linger in your mind as Smoke on the Porter.

Courtesy hopscotch. This one poured a really dark brown almost black color with a thin white head that left behind small amounts of lacing. This has a very nice smokey aroma of a campfire with some smoked meat and sausage being cooked. The flavor is very roasty and smokey as well. It isn’t too smokey though to where it is not enjoyable though. Flavors of smoked sausage, smoked malts, and dark chocolate all come through. The mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied with low carbonation that has a nice roasty and smokey finish to it. This one is really easy to drink, and a nicely done smoked beer. I really enjoyed this one.

pours dark ruby with a thin off white head. Massive smoke going on in this one. Aroma of malts and campfire. Flavor has burnt chocolate, campfire, roasted malts, and apple. Finishes oily and just a little too thin. A very example of how to make a good version of this style.

(Bottle) Pours a dark brown color with a off-white head. Aroma of smoked sausage, and roasted malt. Flavor is very smoky up front, with some dark chocolate, vanilla, dusty malts, and toffee. Creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation, and high drinkability. Another great beer from New Glarus!

Bottle from Ughsmash. He threw this one in as a bonus! Pours almost black with a big tan head and fantastic lacing. Aroma of apple wood smoked bacon accompanied by dark roasty malts and some sweet chocolate too. Smokey campfire wood and a solid roast mesh to form pleasant flavor profile. A bit of sweeter roast peaks through in the back end too. Lots of lingering dry roast and salty smoke. Smooth carbonation. I really like this one. I really enjoy smoked porters though, so I might be a bit biased. The only complaint is that it might be a tad thin but that is really not a huge issue.

About a 1 inch head of fine and dense bubbles. Settles slowly. Smokey aroma with some sweet malts, smoldering wood and some soy sauce. Color is a very dark brown. Wow, big smoky flavor. Very BIG! Some ash and carbon flavors with some dark roasted malts, coffee and a bit of caramel. Much more smoke in the flavor than in the aroma. Finishes sweet and malty with a lingering ashy smoke flavor. This is a VERY smoky beer. A little bit to much for me.

Black pour with a still, thin, contemplative, tan head. Excellent, rich, woody, sweet smoky campfire aroma. Strong, lean, sinewy smoke flavor. Rather light in body with a quick finish. Has some strange saccharine notes. Starts great but doesn’t quite follow through. The body and dark malts could be punched up. The smoke flavor is very nice.

Bottle from the Ugh. Great appearance as spotty lace stuck all over the top of the glass. Seductive aroma - lures you in with roasted chocolate malt and a hint of rich vanilla. First impression at a fairly warm temp was not all that great. This rarely happens for me - but considering the thin body - this thing had to go back in the fridge. Much more enjoyable at a colder temp. The body turned a bit more full and the flavor rounded out. Core of solid porter flavors - but I really enjoyed the sweeter smoky flavor on the finish. Wish it was a bit thicker in body. Nice!

Thanks to pantanap for this one. Lightly smoked aroma and flavor, dark brown body with a tiny bubbled dirty heead, this is a fairly light bodied brew.
