Commercial Description:
Smoke on the Porter began with our neighbors at Hoesly’s Meats. Their smoke house aromas waft through our door creating a special kind of decadence that must be shared. Wisconsin barleys were generously cold smoked with apple wood by the Hoesly family. Brewmaster Dan then harnesses dark malts smoked in Bamberg to create a team that steps out as a creamy smooth black brew that will forever linger in your mind as Smoke on the Porter.

Sweet chocolatey aroma, some slightly acrid smoke. Smoke flavor is light, coming through as salty smoked bacon. Heavy roast and dark chocolate. Creamy palate.

Black pour w/ off-white head. Smoke and hops on the nose. Big smoke taste followed up by chocolate. Thin mouthfeel. Courtesy of Enzofan.

Shared by toncatcher at the Red Poppy release. Nice flavors of wood, and some coffee.

12 oz bottle shared with toncatcher. Smokey aromas and flavors. Some chocolate and porter dustiness as well. Alcohol was well hidden. I didn’t think the smoke was over the top at all. I have had much smokier beers. This was pretty good.

Tried at the Lost Abbey Line tasting. Kind of eager to try this, because of the high rating, but at the same time I’m not a big fan of smoked porters. Was offered this in a trade one time, but I turned it down. Some smoke in the aroma. Brown color. Dry. Some bonus points for being interesting with the smoke aroma.

The smoke was just too overpowering. Had the taste and feel of burnt bacon. The appearance was nice, good head but the smell should have been the give away.

Foam Rangers January meeting. Dark, dark brown with rich mocha head. Aroma is smoked malts, chocolate and smoke itself. Flavor is very smokey with some chocolate and wood flavors. The malt makes this balanced and the finish is nice and roasty.

Acquired in a trade from Stine. Very dark brown in color with a medium tan head. Aroma: chocolate, smoked meat, light roast. Smoke is assertive for the style. Taste is roasty- with chocolate, caramel and alot of smoked meats/wood. The sweet molasses and roast balance the smoke nicely. The body is medium- finishes with lingering roast bitterness as well as smoke. Really good. Thanks Eben!
