Commercial Description:
Smoke on the Porter began with our neighbors at Hoesly’s Meats. Their smoke house aromas waft through our door creating a special kind of decadence that must be shared. Wisconsin barleys were generously cold smoked with apple wood by the Hoesly family. Brewmaster Dan then harnesses dark malts smoked in Bamberg to create a team that steps out as a creamy smooth black brew that will forever linger in your mind as Smoke on the Porter.

A creamy tan head sits on top of a very dark, almost opaque color, with just a hint of a dark red hue in the base of the glass. Aroma is of chocolate, hickory smoke, licorice. The texture on the tongue is creamy, smooth and nicely carbonated. Taste is of carmel, smoke but not overly smokey, with the dark roasted malts predominating. It makes an excellent accompaniment to a bowl of chili on a cold Wisconsin day.

Bottle purchased at Discount, Milwaukee, into shaker. Pours with a large creamy head that turns fluffy and rocky with firm surface. Chunky, sticky and loose lacing. Meaty, fruity smokiness in the aroma. Strong smoke on the outskirts of the flavor, summer sausage and smooth semi-sweet chocolate in the middle. Tasty. Finish coats the mouth. One of the better Unpluggeds I’ve had in a while; I think it’s rating is right on point. That being said, I usually don’t like smoked beers.

Thanks to Ughsmash and tytoanderso, who both sent me a bottle of this one. Pours dark brown with a large head. Good retention. Aroma is smoke, chocolate, dark roasted malt and attic dust. Medium body. Finishes dry and dusty.

Bottle. Pours inky black color with a thinnish brown colored head. Aroma is smoke, caramel, chocolate. Flavor is smokey, caramel, choclate, oak. Palate is full bodied, medium carbonation, finished on the sweet side. One of the better smoked beers I’ve had.

12oz bottle. Pours a deep, dark mahogany with a healthy mocha-colored head. Aroma is both smoky and sweet, with the unmistakable aroma of smoked wood along with hints of caramel, apples, and spices. Taste is creamy and medium-bodied, with a strong smoky almost bacon-like flavor giving way to a long stout-like finish of chocolate, vanilla, molasses, and coffee. Really unique flavors here, though only for those with true grit and guts.

Dense and impossibly dark with a light and earthy aroma. The actual flavor is incredible: notes of smoked cedar, oak, and pine all come through with amazing clarity and a meaty, toasted malt finish that disappears as quickly as it came. Enjoy this particularly robust beer along with grilled balsamic duck or onion-roasted potatoes.

Dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet, smoky, spicy malt. Tastes of dark chocolate, sweet malt and sweet smoke. Smooth and medium bodied with a nice creamy feel to it. Another hit for the unplugged series.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Nose is grapes and brown sugar with growing smoke. Medium light body. Taste is coffee and spritzy unsweetened Concord with burnt grass smoke. Ferric lime peel in the finish. Seems a bit young.
