Commercial Description:
Smoke on the Porter began with our neighbors at Hoesly’s Meats. Their smoke house aromas waft through our door creating a special kind of decadence that must be shared. Wisconsin barleys were generously cold smoked with apple wood by the Hoesly family. Brewmaster Dan then harnesses dark malts smoked in Bamberg to create a team that steps out as a creamy smooth black brew that will forever linger in your mind as Smoke on the Porter.

355 ml bottle from a trade with Ughsmash. pours dark brown with red edges and a medium tan head that lingers all the way through. aromas are a bit smokey with ripe apple and sweet malt coming through. the smoke accents the aromas more then it is the aroma and is in no way over bearing. flavours are an awesome blend of smoke, ripe fruit, coffee, and other malty sweetness. suffers from being a touch to thin but still amazing. thanks Ughsmash!

it’s tasty....it’s tasty. smokey good roots here. Let it warm before drinking as the aromas and flavors really flourish. smells of smoked venison and bacon. very good a bit watery mouthfeel but thats its only downfall solid beer for sure!

Pours extremely dark mahogany to virtually black in color. A medium sized, foamy tan head settles quickly to a thin blanket. Solid rings of lacing circle the glass, breaking up into amoeba like organic splotches over time. The aroma is very malty and smoky. Roasted barley and dark chocolate malts show in the foreground, while charred oak and hints of coffee follow closely behind. The flavor showed a bit more of a subdued smokiness, with coffee taking a more prominent role. Some oaky vanilla and cream add smoothness, while a touch of cola adds some caramel or molasses sweetness. The mouthfeel is substantial, but its a touch over carbonated and chalky for my liking. Solid brew, for sure, but it doesn’t quite live up to the incredibly high standard that previous Unplugged’s have set.

Explosive smoked nose dominates a porter-black pour with a brief tan head. Palate is nicely smooth and indicates a medium body despite the robust flavors. The flavors are much more of the smoked qualities before a rounding-out with roast, coffee, and a brief sweetness. The flavors balance excellently and smoke plays a great role as a tweak on an otherwise sweet porter. Another creative, solid New Glarus brew.

12 oz bottle pours a dark brown black with a brown head. When I first pour it the nose is very smoky - campfire and meat. But it quickly dissipates with chocolate, roasted malts and the meat/smoke in the background. Creamy mouthfeel but a little light bodied. Burnt malt flavors, chocolate, roast, earthy wood, campfire and smoked ham. Earthy drying malt finish. Flavors are a little light, but a nicely done smoked. I can drink this beer often. So interesting and fun to drink.

Thanks to ogglethorp for the trade. Pours a deep brown with lots of amber notes and an average bubbly/creamy tan lacing head. Aroma of smoked meats, roasted malts, some dark chocolate notes, woody/earthy and a touch of some caramel. Flavor of campfire smoke, coffee grinds...as the flavor lingers on my tongue I get some milk chocolate and a touch of vanilla.

Yet again, thanks for sharing yjb! This is what a beer should look like, period. Dark dark brown with a thin tan head. Bacon at first, but chcooalte comes out more and more. A bit of sweet oaky(?) tannins in with the sweet sweet malt. The nose changes dramatically with the temperature. Perfect mouth. Creamyy, but small bubbles. Not heavy on the palate, but full and creamy. Ethereal. Nice flavor, but short of the nose. big bacony smoke. Yummy chocolatey porter with significant roast. hops of the floral sort. Bitter aftertaste acidic surprising. Warming hurt this beer a bit, drink her fast!
