Commercial Description:
Smoke on the Porter began with our neighbors at Hoesly’s Meats. Their smoke house aromas waft through our door creating a special kind of decadence that must be shared. Wisconsin barleys were generously cold smoked with apple wood by the Hoesly family. Brewmaster Dan then harnesses dark malts smoked in Bamberg to create a team that steps out as a creamy smooth black brew that will forever linger in your mind as Smoke on the Porter.

12 oz botlte, left my someone the night after YEhA 07 in our hotel room. I drank this the next morning (hungover as hell) and took some notes. Pours a woody brown almost black, with a thin lasting head. Aroma is surprisingly more smokey than anticipated- lots of campfire smoke, woody , nutty, and good chocolate aromas. Nice warming nutty and toasty malt flavors, good smoked meats and wood. Smooth cold smoke finish. Nice smoked porter! Not as harsh or burny as the Alaskan, about as good maybe.

12 ounce bottle from Ughsmash. Pours basicly opaque dark brown. There are the slightest bit of red hues. Small tan head. The smoke character is light, but pleasing. Certainly a bit bacon-ish. A fair amount of chocolate character as well. Fantastic balance between the smoke and chocolate flavors. Medium body. Silky. Medium carbonation. Dry finish. A fine beer.

bottle....poured medium bodied and almost black in nature. what started as a fluffy tan head quickly vanished but left a creamy film on the top....aroma had an abundance of chocolate and roasted malt and wasn’t too overwhelmed by the smokiness. in fact, the smoke and char played a subsidiary role.....flavors piggy-backed off of the aromas even more. what i admired about this smoked was the creamy mouthfeel and how little carbonation there was and the just right level of sweetness from the malt.....i’m not a huge smoked fan but this has been my favorite of the ones i’ve tried. well done new glarus!

Bottle from sliffy. Thanks! Pours a dark brown cola color with a nice sized tan head that fades a bit. Good flavors of char, roasted malts, chocolate, some wood, and light smokiness. Nose is roasty with a bit of wood and smoke. Very nice easy drinking smoked beer. I don’t like my beer to smokey so this one was just right. Another great one from the Dan. Mr. Carey AND Sliffy!

Nice tan head. There’s a smoky aroma for sure but not too much. Body is smooth as hell with the destinct flavor of Shlenkerla malts. Bacon-y and ham-my. Quite possibly as good as AK.

Poured a dark brown color with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of light smoke, chocolate, roasted malts, and apple wood. Taste of cocoa, roast, applewood, smoke, and a dry finish.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Clear, almost black beer with a small, creamy, khaki head. When held up to very bright light, a crimson halo appears around the edges of my glass. Simply a chocolate and smoked meat aroma. Sweet, smoky flavor doesn’t become cloying, but tiptoes around it. Nice bitterness, but there’s not enough of it. Medium-bodied and lightly creamy with pillow-soft carbonation. Lengthy, smoky-sweet, and then minerally, bitter finish. Kudos to pepsican for shipping the bottle my way!
