Commercial Description:
Smoke on the Porter began with our neighbors at Hoesly’s Meats. Their smoke house aromas waft through our door creating a special kind of decadence that must be shared. Wisconsin barleys were generously cold smoked with apple wood by the Hoesly family. Brewmaster Dan then harnesses dark malts smoked in Bamberg to create a team that steps out as a creamy smooth black brew that will forever linger in your mind as Smoke on the Porter.

Finally an unplugged with no cherries!! Pours dark brown with tan head. Light smoked malt flavor, roasted malts and milk chocolate. Typical porter flavor with a bit of smoke... add more smoke.

Courtesy hopscotch. Pours dark brown, with almost no head whatsoever. Smells of a good amount of smoke, that typical campfire/Sunday morning breakfast aroma that is so pleasant. Not a total smoke bomb, but certainly prevalent. The flavor definitely seemed alot more smoky than the nose. Alot of fire and bacon, with some syrupy malts and tiny hints of chocolate were also detected. Pretty nice smoked beer. Well done.

12 oz. bottle via trade with Ughsmash - Pours a dark brown color with a one and a quarter finger thick light tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is mostly smoked malt. Flavor is smoked and light roasted malt and hints of chocolate. Palate is a touch thin and dry. The smokiness seems to linger. The beer is somewhat one dimensional, but good none the less. Thanks Jason.

Pours a deep brown, with a 1’ tan, foamy head. Nice lacing. Very smoky aroma, with subtle malts. Tastes like I’m eating the BBQ, subtle coffee notes. A little dry aftertaste. Light bodied porter. Not a bad beer, but the smoke is a little overbearing.

Pours an almost black but actually very dark brown shade with ruby highlights along the edge of the glass when held to the light. Smoke (bacony) is the first and most prominent scent but this is a porter and some coffee like roastiness. The flavor absolutely rocks my world with hints of the aforementioned smoked bacon, cock hardening chocolate, and fist pumping coffee. This beer is truly wonderful.

Bottle: Pours a rich dark mahogany color with a big frothy tan head. Aroma of hickory smoked bacon, roasted malts and light coffee. Has medium body to it with the flavors of smoked bacon, roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Has a rather complex array of flavors of hops and malts inter-twined. Has a dry, slightly bitter finish. Nice all around well crafted brew.

Bottle from iowaherkeye (thanks!). Pours dark brown with a decent bit of head. Aroma was slightly smoky along with roasted malts. Taste was better, with a nice roasty taste complimented well by some smoke. Palate was thick and full. I’m a fan.

The latest in NG’s Unplugged series is deepest brown/black with no light visible through the glass. There is a full, thick light brown head. The aroma is definitely smoky beef jerky with roasted sweet malts in the background. The flavor is very roasty with a pleasant smoked wood note. Really smooth and delicious. If you like porters, this is a great one to try for a new spin on an old favorite. Dan Carey is one imaginative dude. Great!
