Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Thanks, Cheeseman. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while. Pours a reddish color with a foamy pink head. Strong cherry nose without being too medicinal. Lots of cherries in there, just like it should be. Very good.

nice fruity beer. The ladies really love this one. It has a lot of fruit going on and some may admit too much. its cherries for damn real. Couldn’t drink more than a few pints of this.

Bottle. This was by far the BEST fruit beer I have ever tried. Poured a hazy reddish color with a thin off-white head. Lots of cherries in the nose. Flavor is major cherry and cherry pitt but not at all artificial, not really sour but a little tart. Excellent!

Finally got to try the beer that eluded me for so long, thanks to a friend that randomly had some. Pours a cloudy ruby red with a nice off-white head. Aroma of cherries and spices. Flavor is sweet cherry pie with cinnamon and brown sugar. Bready pie crust notes really add to it. Mouthfeel is incredibly smooth and silky. Best fruit beer I’ve ever had, hands down.

I pt. 9 oz. bottle (2009) in a flute; pours an unclear red bordering on brown, becoming a fiery amber in the light w/ an ephemeral off-white/light pink head; aroma is mostly dominated by sweet cherries and strong marzipan w/ an undertone of bubblegum; flavor is again dominated by the cherries and marzipan, more so by the cherries, which bring in a nice sourness as well; medium-bodied, finishing slightly tart. Tasty beer, but I’ve always maintained that its a tad too sweet. One of the better fruit beers out there nonetheless.

Pours a somewhat murky reddish brown, with a thin light tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of sweet cherry pie filling. Sweet cherry flavor, a touch of almond, and very light oak in the finish. More sweet than sour. Pretty substantial mouthfeel with a sharp effervescence. I’m going to go against the grain a little bit here - I like the Rasperry Tart better.

A- Pours a translucent reddish brown with a 1.5 finger frothy head after a vigorous pour that dissipates quickly. S- Smells is candy sweet, cherries, rich malty backbone. T- Taste is earthy, hints of cherry, a tad sour, maybe hints of toffee. M- Fairly thick and maybe a bit too carbonated for my taste. D- Well crafted but I can barely drink 1 glass. Way too fruit forward for me. I like fruit beers a little more subtle than this.

Never had anything like this before. I was recommend to try yet another great New Glarus brew by a fellow Beer Geek. Poured from the bottle, (champagne sized bottle) a red-brown color, high carbonation, but not too much. The aroma was like cherry liquor, the taste of cherries was prominent, for me I got the sweetness not the sour or tartness that is often associated with cherry brews. It’s tough to describe in beer terms because it’s not what I think of as a beer, but it is not like a wine either. The 1-year aging is probably a major contributor to the taste. A must try for all beer fanatics!
