| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 8, 2009 Bottle@Home. Very fruity aroma, mainly cherry but also some black berries. But that’s it actually, nothing tart, wood or whatever to be found. Cloudy, deep red colour, beige head, good lace. Very fruity, lots of cherry again, little tart in the start but this just disappears leaving a sweet marzipan and light bitter drink. It’s tasty, but it’s more fruit juice than Belgian Red. blklab2007 (954), Connecticut, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 7, 2009 650 mL. Pours a bright red like cherry soda. Aromas of black cherries with a small red head. Taste is very sweet with candied sugar and black cherries but is missing the intense sourness of a lambic that I sort of miss. Very smooth and natural. Really just tastes like amazing black cherry soda. No alcohol detected. Very enjoyable and good but is this beer? stefanje (938), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 30, 2009 650ml bottle courtesy of Noblesquirrel. Pours an impressive red color with a small pink head. The aroma is rich with ripe fresh cherries. The taste is similarly loaded with cherries, plus a bit of raspberry and some sweetened cranberry. The finish is long and overtly sweet with lingering berries. The mouthfeel is silky with a malty conclusion. Overall: this is one outstanding brew. I loved it. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Dark red with a generous head due to high carbonation quickly fades. Smells like a holiday fruit cake and a very appealing cherry smell. Taste of cherries with a tart plum like taste. Unlike most fruit beers very natural and it does not fell artificial.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 26, 2009 Dark cherry red with a thin off white head. Nice cherry aroma, not at all artificial. Taste is the same strong cherry with a light tartness, and oaky vanilla. Fantastic and not artificial or cough syrupy or sherberty with the cherries. Cherries are definitely not my thing but I enjoyed this more than the Raspberry Tart. fidel (913), Livermore, California, USA

Cracked this open to share with dear ol’ dad on Father’s Day. Belgian Red pours a glimmering ruby with a touch of haze. A fizzy two finger champagne like head forms on the pour and fizzles down to a ring after a couple minutes. Small patchy lacing slides down the flute back into the body after each drink. A delicious looking dessert beer!
When I stick my nose in the glass it fills with all kinds of cherry. Cherry pie filling, tart cherries, Bing cherries, and maraschino cherries are all present and accounted for. Extremely mouthwatering, bold and to the point. An excellent rich aroma coming from an excellent beer.
Everything the nose suggested the flavor delivers. The immense cherry flavors start with a quick flash of tartness followed by the sweetened cherry pie filling and Bing cherries mid-palate. Finishes with another flash of the slightly tart cherries. All this cherry flavor really comes together to create something special.
Body is on the fuller side of medium with a bit of stick. Although the body is on the fuller side it moves through nicely and has a great smoothness.
This is a beer to be savored. The intense cherry flavors keep this from being guzzled but it is one easy beer to put away.
New Glarus’s fruit beers stand a top a line up full of gems. The Belgian Red is all at once tart, tangy, and sweet with an incredible depth of flavor. You will have a hard time finding any other fruit beer that can come close to this one, flavor-wise.
