Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Pours a nice deep amber red/ but more of a ruby red than the standard amber ale. Some head with slight lace. Aroma is pure cherry, very sweet and powerful. Sweet and tart cherry pie like flavor with good lively carbonation. Good mouthfeel and body. Perhaps a little too sweet for me but very nice.

(Bottle) Post Mondial Gathering 2004 at TiggMTL. Thin, white head with a ruby-red body. Nose of sour-cherries and marzipan. Tart cherry flavour with a sweet, fruit-syrup and 7-Up finish. Very good. Many thanks to Captain Cougar for this offering...

Bottle shared with Casey, Tracey and Loz at a great American beer tasting evening 11-04-08 hosted by Casey and Tracey, cheers mate! Slightly sour cherry milkshake type aroma with good yoghurt like qualities, really interesting. There is the most delicious flavour to this, I had this vision of Oompah Loompah’s loading bucket after bucket of wonderful fresh ripe cherries into the cask whilst singing a merry little ditty, that’s the thing about this beer it certainly takes you off elsewhere with every sip. A wonderfully sharp but sweet, fruity but soft chocolatey taste to this beer I loved it, many thanks to Casey for sharing this classy beer.

[Bottled. Thanks Kramer.] Hazy red-brown colour. Cherry stone and glue/almonds in aroma. Bit woody too. Sweet backbone with plain cherry. I’m puzzled - this is way too sweet. Was it sweetened with sugar? I know loads of cherries were added but this is not balance. Syrupy sweet this is. Fruity mustiness - good on you! Naah, this did not do it for me...

750 ml bottle poured a hazy maroon with a small diminishing ruddy pink head. Aromas of pie cherries, hint of lemon and wheat. Palate was medium bodied and tart. Flavors of our pie cherries, light wheat and a bit of lemon with a dry tart lingering cherry finish.

Bottle obtained via trade with moejuck. Pours hazy, muddy amber and burnt orange with a small and quickly dissipating fizzy white head. Aroma is sour lemon and cherry, cherry skin, earthy yeast, straw malt, other fruit (apple, apricot, pineapple) and butter. Initially very sweet cherry syrup and then the tartness rescues you from it taking your mouth to the other extreme and waking all saliva glands at once with a puckering lemon zing. Sweet malt and trace yeast, cherry skins and buttered bread. Medium bodied and dry palate. Not a Top 50 in my ever so humble opinion.

Bright cherry red with a small pinkish head. Poured a bit thick, which made me think this was going to be a sweet thing I wouldn’t want. Aroma is tangy cherry with mellow maltiness. The flavor of fresh cherries just jumps out at you. I mean the whole cherry, stems, pits, dirt, skin, everything. There is a bitterness to offset all of these cherries, that makes it a bit sour and dry. Noting to complain about. After having this stuff a few times, I’ve had to lower my rating a little. The last two bottles have tasted like cherry pie filling. Just too sweet.

Rating #750! Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & Dave B. -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. This seems like as good a choice as any for this mini-milestone. Pours a murky ruby-red with a spare diminishing white head. Fan-friggin’-tastic aroma of sweet cherries, very mildly sour and never cloying -- just awesome. Pleasant sour cherry flavour with an oaky middle and a nice mild hoppy finish. Quite carbonated with a syrupy mouthfeel and medium bodied. This is very, very good though I don’t think I could drink the bottle to myself -- still, this has to be one of the top Fruit Beers out there.
