Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

This brew is really a masterpiece. What an intense flavor, pours cherry red, transparent, with a tall white/pink head that leaves thick lacing on the glass the whole way down. Tons of sweet cherry in the aroma and flavor, slightly tart, but a great sweet flavor almost accented with mollasses. This brew really reminded me of the aroma of those Soho cherry sodas. Nice tartness that was balanced out by the malt sweetness. EPIC!

Utterly amazing! I had searched for this beer for ages, and was excited to visit Chicago just because I knew I'd finally be able to get my hands on it. I was not to be disappointed when I tasted it. First, there's wax over the bottlecap, which is a classy touch. The beer is world class. Tastes as though a barrelful of cherries is in each bottle - the brewery must have spared no expense. Sweet like cherry pie, yet with tartness. Delectably delicious.

750. Pours cloudy brown with a thick, bubbly tan head that falls away to nothing pretty quickly. Super-intense cherry essences all over the nose and palate. Creamy, sticky, almost-thick body with nearly-fizzy carbonation. Deeply intense cherry flavor. Good stuff, fairly refreshing and drinkable given the sugar content and thickness.

(Rating #167)

Pours a hazy reddish with thin head. Aroma of fresh baked cherry pie, cherry juice, and a little bit of mustiness. The aroma is almost addictive. I couldn’t stop smelling it. The flavor is more sweet natural cherries followed by a little tartness. Perhaps a little more must and some funky wheat, and a touch of spice. Finishes a little tart with some lingering dryness and cherry flavor. Lively carbonation. Medium body. I got to get some more of this. Happy 1000 to me!

Foggy and dark ruby-red. Sweet, maraschino cherry nose. Soft, mildly carbonated, and sugary texture. I smelled cherries, but I tasted dried apricots all over the place, lingering long in the cheeks. Sweet malts (cake) and a very, very mild bitterness. Hint of tartness ... and even a touch of a cinnamon-like aroma. Overall, somewhat reminiscent of Transatlantique, but New Glarus is sweeter and heavier. Other than being just a little too sweet, it's a really fine beer.

Thanks to boboski for opening this brew. Pours a clear blood red with white head. Smells like sugar soaked sweet cherries simmering over the stove. Wow! Awesome aroma. Freshly picked perfectly ripe cherries. The flavor starts with hints of tartness and sour yeast that quickly get consumed by sweet and tart ripe cherries fresh from the cherry tree. It gets sweeter and sweeter and richer and richer before some sourness comes back into play. Great tasting brew. Wow! Thanks Jason.

Bottle @ Cole’s. Curses: WHY CAN’T I DRINK THIS MORE OFTEN? Hazy strawberry color with little head. Intense cherry pie, compacted jammy aroma. Soft but solid carbonation. Intense jammy body. Pie filling in a glass. Pounds of cherries transformed into beer by goddesses. Kick ass!!! Pleeeeease can I have more? Please?
