Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

I really like the wax-top style. Beautiful, beautiful appearance, like fruit puree so rich in color and substance. Wonderful aroma...wonderful flavor... I won't belavor the point, except to say that I wish it had been more sour. Oh, it was wonderful. Only I was coming down with the stomach flu...what an awful night I had. Big thanks to Joe K for bringing back a bottle from Wisconsin. (rating 19 Dec 2003: 9-5-7-4-18) // Re-rate 20 Aug 04: 9-5-9-3-17...same score, I guess, but seemingly better than I remembered. Lots of Ludens!

Bottle @ Cole’s. Curses: WHY CAN’T I DRINK THIS MORE OFTEN? Hazy strawberry color with little head. Intense cherry pie, compacted jammy aroma. Soft but solid carbonation. Intense jammy body. Pie filling in a glass. Pounds of cherries transformed into beer by goddesses. Kick ass!!! Pleeeeease can I have more? Please?

750ml Bottle: Aroma of sour cherries. Poured reddish brown in color with a small tan head that diminished quickly. Very hazy. Flavor is medium to heavily sour. Tastes of sour cherries. Like a cherry soda. Very nice. Medium body. Slightly sticky texture. Average to lively carbonation. Sour cherry finish.

(750 ml bottle: ScottVacula’s Barleywine Party ’04) Simply an incredible beer, a far better treat than any dessert; Tart cherry flavor of this beer dominates, but a sharp tangyness springs up in the finish; Somewhat tart, but the strong sweetness stays dominant throughout; The same tartness is also present in the nose, but it’s an aroma of pure cherry pie filling all the way; The tangyness is much more prevalent as the beer warms; pleasant and enjoyable cherry lambic; Dark red in color and quite cloudy; The head is light tan with a slightly red hue

I have to agree on the "girly beer" comment, but this is the most unique beer experience I've had in a while. I suppose the closest beer to compare it to would be quelque chose, but this beer is a bit more "extreme." It smells and tastes like they made those sour cherry gummy candies into a beer. This beer has a lot of fizz, which works with the sour aspects of the beer to get the salivary glands working, which in turn causes you to pick up the intense, sweet cherry flavor that is hiding behind the sourness. All of the elements of the beer encourage slow sipping, so I think it should have a higher alcohol content, but that's my only complaint. If you are looking for something new and different, this is the place to go.

Deep Black Cherry Red, a large head that dissipates quickly, the color reddish-beige, the lace adequate. Nose is that of ripe cherries, and sweet malt grains. Start is quite sweet, the middle moderate, the finish is acidic, sour, with just a touch of hops, and a lingering sweetness in the after taste. Once upon a time I did not care for this style, but like my old ’BUD’ Ebeneezer Scrooge, I have had a reclamation. I now see the errors of my ways, and hopefully the tons of chain and beer kegs, will not fetter me upon my entrance to that great brewery in the sky, I’m sure the ’Master Brewer’ will forgive my transgressions.

Unclear red colored beer with a tall peach colored head. Heavy sweet aroma with plenty of cherrires and marzipan tones. Sweet and sour cherry flavor with almond and marzipan. Rather tart and sharp and very flavorfull. An excellent and very tasty fruit beer! Thanks madsberg for sharing!
