Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Aroma: Cherries, light roasted malt, oakwood. Appearance: Rich red color. ACTUALLY RED. White, quickly diminishing head. Fair lacing. Flavor: Monmorency cherries. Mild wheat aftertaste. Nicely sweet hint of roasted barley. Very nice tartness. Palate: medium mouthfeel. high carbonation.

Ok, ok. I had this on tap. It was really tasty. So much so, that I re-rated it.

Bottle courtesy of hopsmoker. Paired with a frikadelle and black cherry sauce at a Belgian-themed dinner at maltydogs. Great cherry aroma, sour and fruity. Cherry skins and sugar, acidic and sweet. Fresh macerated sour cherry. Reddish hazy with thin lacing pinkish head. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Great cherry taste, like fresh tart cherries and sour cherry pie filling. Ascorbic acid and cherry skin tannins. Great tartness throughout with mild bittering finish and tart fruity after.

Shared this bottle with a former co worker on recent visit to Wisconsin. Cherries stood out in the aroma along with some bread notes. Body lokked like a bloody mary thats what the peanut gallery at the house said. Flavor was all about the cherries. Syrupy full bodied flavor. Even the mother in law tried it and liked it. She said it was better than that barley wine sample I gave her a few nights before.

Huge cherry nose, cloudy rust color, sticky head. Very sweet, sugary almost. Like marichino cherry. Sour light tart end. Thick body. Good stuff, good stuff! Thanks for this Mike!.

25 oz bottle, via 1FastSTi. Pours a murky reddish colored body, almost bordering on brown, with a small pink tinged head. Tart sour cherry aroma is just amazing. Just like taking a whiff of fresh cherry pie filling with that balance of tart cherry and sweet goopy syrup. Notes of cherry pits and some yeast as well. Great sour cherry flavor up front with a smack of tartness in the finish. The finish also had some chocolaty and fresh oak notes. Medium bodied with lively carbonation that refreshes the palate after every sip. This is a truely World Class beer. I didn’t think that this was overly complex, actually I think it’s rather up front with it’s beauty. Though it did become a little more vinous over the 2 hours spent drinking this glass, the first sip revealed it’s greatness. You don’t have to work very hard to see the full potential of this beer.

Bottle shared with jerc & mabel - my bottle obtained from HogTownHarry. Hazy orangey-red with a wispy pink head. Aroma reminded me of cherry cough syrup at first, and my wife smelled cherry Life Savers - but once it set for a few minutes, we all agreed that it smelled like a fresh baked and delicious cherry pie. Same with the flavour - a bit medicinal at first, but then the cherry pie notes kicked in... mmmm, this is damn good!

Rating #1000!: Hazy burgundy/amber colour with a thin pinkish tan head. Aroma of cherries, raspberries, caster sugar, tart strawberries and a light vinegary twang. Full-bodied; Sour cherry flavour, not too tart, but plentiful sweet cherry qualities. A bit of spicey hints, but mostly sour perfectly balanced with sweetness. Aftertaste has a great mouthful-cherries and some caramel/brown sugar tastes. Overall, VERY happy to try this beer. It had a great mix of sweet and sour flavours, MANY thanks to Tom (CaptainCougar) for this trade way back in September 2003. I was VERY happy with Beer #1000!

Courtesy of a trade from Monger. Pours a cloudy cherry-brown, with a slightly pink head showing good retention. Fantastic tart-cherry aroma in the nose; some funk and whispers of vanilla; reminiscent of cherry cola. Full, sweet-and-sour mouthfeel; with the tartness balancing out a sweet cherry core. The cherry character is fresh, tart, layered, and without the stale overtones I caught from NG’s Cherry Stout. A phenomenal fruit beer that offers a great deal while keeping its balance. Thanks James!
