| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 9, 2008 Bottle at a tasting; really lucky to have had this. color was brownish red with an off white head. Aroma of sweet cherry with some general maltiness. Flavor was fairly sweet with a whole damn lot of cherries. It was a bit medicinal, but not too negatively. Slightly cloying. Good for the style. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 16, 2006 Rating #500 for this beer and #325 for me! My wife and I and some friends were fortunate enough to visit the New Glarus Brewery while we were in that area in November...
New Glarus Belgian Red is a muddy claret color with a fizzy white head that bubbles away quickly. The aroma is all cherry and is sweet, but also has a slight "tang" to it. Like the aroma, the flavor is cherry and has a wonerfully balanced sweet and sour/tart thing going on. There is a hint of "beer" flavor just before the enjoyable, fuity finish. The beer feels soft and juicy in mouth, medium body over all. This beer is well carbonated, but not too much to the point that it is fizzy. The cherry aroma and flavor are 100% real - no artificial qualities at all! This is a fantastic beer and was well worth the trip to the brewery to pick up a few bottles! On top of that, this is another beer that my wife actually likes (she would have given it a 4.9)!
25 oz bottle directly from the brewery! --

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 13, 2003 Bottle. Dark cloudy reddish brown color (almost like homemade cider) with a creamy light brown and pink head. The aroma is wonderful with apples, cinnamon, and sweet cherries. I was satisfied just to keep taking in the aroma. It starts with a tart tingle on the tongue and is soon followed by the highly sweet and sour cherry. Finishing with a cinnamon and cherry aftertaste, this beer a true joy. Not as full and malty as I remember the Rodenbach beers. Thanks to my friend Todd for sending this to me from Wisconsin.

| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 5, 2004 The first time I sampled this brew was a blind taste test vs. Cantillion at a local bowling alley/restaurant/theater/music venue/beer and wine bar. NG came out on top!
Color is a rich, ripe, bright cherry red, with a short and soon departed head. Aroma is in a class of it’s own: absolutely gorgeous! Rich, delicious, vinous, sweet, and sour, the perfect picture of cherries! It’s utterly wonderful, and a joy to drink in deep with the nose!
On the palate, other tranformations occur: WOW! Dazzling, uplifting, and lovely! By tranformative, I mean that something new occurs in me, I am 100% happier by drinking this elixir, my mood is elevated, every atom has an energized attitude!
Several waves of sensation occur throughout the consumption of this ale, it jumps and jiggers in the mouth, surges in and sallies out. The taste continues, and the feeling wells up in and rides over every square inch of the body that is apt to perceive sensation! Finish is a bit tartish, but what do you want, it’s cherries, man!
Wow...this was perfect, and I felt that the 750 ml wax finshed bottle was a bit stingy! Hook me up to a keg of this stuff!

| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 23, 2005 Lightly ruby tinged amber, decent head. Aroma was an amazing blast of pure cherry. Flavor is also cherry, mixed with a touch of almond. But you are still aware that you have a beer in your hands, despite the preponderance of fruit. This review really doesn’t even come close to describing how good this beer is. Huge thanks to CaptainCougar for this one! DYCSoccer17 (2201), Davis, California, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 25, 2004 Wow, this aroma smells JUST LIKE my mom’s cherry pie. I will have to warn you that I LOVE cherries and there are few things I’d much rather have than my mom’s cherry pie. Sweet and tart cherries in the nose. Hazy amber color with red tints and a pink head. The start is very sweet cherries turning mildly sour. Gets a little more sour in the finish. Has some sweet malt tones to end. This has the perfect balance of the cherry sweetness and the cherry sourness. I wish I lived in Wisconsin! Don’t make me choose between this and Quelque Chose! willblake (2190), Belcamp, Maryland, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 31, 2005 01.31.05 750ml bottle, champagne flute at first, then tumbler. Reddish/copper/amber, clouded; big tan head with purple and pink hued highlights. Aroma is dominated by cherries: ripe, overripe, mascerated, dried, and delicious cherries. Coinciding biscuity notes make the whole package remind of cherry pie! Quite tart, great balance but tending towards sweet/tart, finishes even more tart and cleansingly astringent. Flavors burst with fresh fresh fruit, lightly acetic; lingering yeast and vinous hints. Amazing beer!
