Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Bottle via JPDIPSO (thanks John!!) I’ve wanted to get a bottle of this for quite some time, so once my box today arrived, a bottle of this went straight into the fridge. Upon opening this thing just burst out cherry smells. Poured into a flute with the same result, smells like a cherry with a little wheat too. The aroma is the best part, by far. Taste is sweet and not very sour but it has a nice kick to it that lets you know there is some sourness to it. Very smooth to drink, too smooth acutally. My bottle disappeared in 20 minutes leaving me pleased yet upset that it was gone so quick. It was like once I started drinking it I could not stop until I was out of it. A damn fine fruit beer that should be on top of everyones want list.

<<<RE-RATE 5/21/08>>>
25.4 oz bottle purchased in March of 2008 at Chicones in Hudson, Wisconsin. OK, I had this one very early on, I believe it was my second rating on the site, figured I was due for a re-rate. Pour is hazy cherry red with a 1 inch pink-white head. Some really nice lacing. Beautiful pour. Aroma of tart, fresh cherries. Quite a bit of fruit sweetness. Smells like Cherry jam almost. Really spent a long time smelling this one. Taste is very much the sweet and tart cherries. This is amazingly fresh tasting. Very soft palate, quite mouth coating as well. I do certainly understand what all the fuss is about on this beer now, though its sweetness keeps this one from scoring higher for me. 8,5,7,5,15 (4.0).

I poured this at GABF 06 and it appeared to be the most popular sample at the show. Great aroma and body. Head thinned out fairly fast. I found the taste to be a bit over powering, and not nearly as balanced as some of the Belgian classics. Good beer, but don’t see what all the fuss is about. 8,5,7,3,15 (3.8).

much thanks to hezron for sending me this brew.i am very excited to try it.i poured a generous amount into my flute glass to recieve a color that looked alot like an amber ale mixed with a cherry lambic.not much head to speak of at all.the aroma honestly lit my eyes up.it was a lovely mix of cherries, wine, ludens cough drops, and something that i can only describe as the smell of a wine cellar.the taste was nice and complex as well.it was a mix of cherries, cinnamon, apples, carbonation, and maybe some hops???the mouthfeel had lots of bite and was medium in body.this is excellent and very different.

From a 750 ml bottle this poured a very rich and dark cherry head with almost no head. The nose is very strongly cherries and some hard to identify spices. Very lively mouthfeel. Flavor is sweet with the cherries dominating. This is a remarkable fruit beer.

Bottle shared generously by footbalm at the great Utah tasting. Three RB guys from Utah, what will happen next? The beer pours a dark red body with a small white head. The aroma was amazing; I am surrounded by ripe and tart cherries, wow. The taste was also dominated by the cherries, but done in such a great way. just the perfect balance between sour and sweet. There is also some vanilla and wood aspects. Just amazing; it’s smooth and so tasty, but not artificial at all, and very well balanced out, without being over the top at all. Amazing. Re-rate: had this again and it was just as good. Amazing finish.
