He was one of my greatest heros. He rated New Glarus Belgian Red as one of the top ten beers in America in 2002: http://www.beerhunter.com/documents/19133-001726.h A great beer for a great man. Bottle from iowaherkeye in June 2007. Pours a deep cloudy red color with a hint of brown. No head, but finely carbonated with a microbubble splash eminating from the pour. Aroma is of a malted cherry cheesecake, and oak deceptively combining to allude to cinnamon. Aaah, a beer so pleasant in aroma in need not be consumed. No! It must be consumed. The taste is mild, lightly carbonated, and at the same time very flavorful. A masterfully brewed beer with high residual sweetness, so the taste of cherries is complete. Easy to drink. Perfect to pair with many foods. Aaahhh. Pleasure. jason (1627), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma is of sweet cherries, very nice smell. Taste is cherry, slightly sour and tart with decent carbonation. Very smooth and leaves a slight syrupy aftertatse. Awesome fruit beer. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2006 Updated: Nov 18, 2006750mL vintage 2003. Pour is dark red, almost brown with small white lacing. Little carbonation. Nose is exactly as described by many raters, cherry pie (the whole damn thing). Flavor starts off slightly tart but quickly progresses into full on fresh cherries. Never had a drink that so much like the actual fruit. Wow. Leaves a great taste on the palate. While not a huge fan of cherry pie (or pies in general--too rich for me), I could drink this stuff everyday. Such a treat. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2006 Thanks to DavidP for this bottle. Split this into two glasses a tulip and a flute. Color is very appealing - a bloody ruby red with carbonation visible in the light, The light does a great job illuminating the entire beer but looks murky when away from the light. Aroma is strong - all cherry - sour-sweet, earthy and slightly toasty. Taste is all cherry as well but TOO cherry for me. While I enjoy this in the aroma, the flavor is not "beer" enough. Taste just like my grandma’s cherry kompot. Very sweet, medium body, no bitterness. My girlfriend really likes the stuff so I pretty much got it for her. esjaygee (1600), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 1, 2008 Murky reddish-orange with a thin off-white head. Aroma of fresh cherries. Taste of fresh cherries and sweet malt with a sweet and tart finish (but not as tart as their raspberry tart beer). Pretty much everything advertised by everyone else’s write-ups on here. Good stuff! Flavor was obviously cherry, but it had a nice spicy taste to it, my whole toungue danced with the first sip! Can’t wait to have again, my boss picked this up for me on a trip, Thanks lee! | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 19, 2006 From a 750 ml. bottle with a red wax dipped cap, a blurb and serving suggestion on the right side, sampled after three hours in refrigerator in a flute glass.
Poured a ruby red amber, like cherry wood in color, with a red hued foamy, bubbly pale tan head that settled in a thin lacing.
Aromas of freshly mashed cherries with light yeastiness and wheat malts.
Good, even, steady carbonation and a dry, softly crisp, creamy smooth medium bodied mouthfeel, pretty close to perfect.
Delicious tasting, fresh red cherry mash with a sugary tartness, a good acidity, a very light sour breadiness, a subtle hop flavor and bitterness, a slight alcohol warmth in the palate, and a dry cherry and malty finish.
This is one of the better fruit beers I’ve had, an easy, smooth sipping drinkability, well worth trying.
