Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Shared with my wife and great friends. Pours a watery red and has a thin white head. Aroma is big sweet cherry, but very fresh and not sugary or syrupy. Just a very fresh cherry aroma. Taste has both a little of sweet and tart cherry. Nicely carbonated, a very nice balance of not too smooth and syrupy nor champagne like. Does not get cloyingly sweet either. Would make a wonderful after dinner drink, just delightful.

Pours a deep crimson amber color w/ a medium sized, pink spritzy froth. Hang time is nil but residual lacing is full. Aromas of fresh, tart, cherry pie. Nice! Medium full nectar w/ creamy residual effers. Huge, fresh sweet cherries from just underripened to perfectly ripe. A defind tartness balances the moderate sweetness. Other nuances of pommegranite, lemonaide, w/ slight biscuiting. The finish is bitterd w/ a tar, acidic component. This brew is thirst quenching and very drinkable. I have to add. I drank this after a pizza dinner. When I eat pizza, I can’t quench my thirst. I can keep drinking until I am uncomfortable. I popped this open and it totally quenched my thirst. First time ever. Thanks Glarus !

My original rating of 3.1 is far too harsh. After additional samplings of this tasty, tasy beer, I've decided to up my rating of it. Sure there's a ton of fruit, but there's a ton of fruit in many of the beers in this style. This is just so good, I can't be so harsh. It's wrong. Wow. What to say about this beer? Well, a nice red-brown color with almost no head. My initial thought when smelling the beer was of cherry fruittape. Sort of like fruit roll-ups, but made with real fruit. The "health" food alternative. Someone also said to me cherry koolaid powder, no water. Either way, cherries like a kick in the crotch. The mouthfeel is superb. Wonderful sour cherry flavor. Tart and lovely. My only question, and maybe the reason its kind of rated lower for me, is: Why is this a Flanders Red Ale and not a fruit beer? New Glarus Belgian Red is to Flanders Red Ale as Kalamazoo Bell's Cherry Stout is to Stout/Sweet Stout. If this was a fruit beer, or I was convinced otherwise, this beer would be a 4.5+, but as it stands...

750ml bottle pours dark ruby red. Cherries cherries cherries are the aroma along with the flavor. Mostly marchino cherries, very sweet and lightly sour, medium body that fizzes away to a lingering sweet acidic cherry. It could use a little more acidity and bitterness to balance that sweetness, but still, damn good.

750 ml bottle. Pours a tomato juice cinnamon red color with a medium bubbly white head. Beautiful aroma of cherries; cherry pie filling, cherry cobler and cherry tart. The best fruity aroma of any beer Ive ever had to date-Perfect. Taste is loaded with the right blend of sweet and sour cherries with a touch of cinnamon. Im not the biggest fan of fruit beers, but this one is AMAZING in every aspect. A cherry experience not to be forgotten !!

Bottle, Great nose, Cherry like those sour candy things and a whiff of toffee. Orangey red color, tad hazy. Sour sweet flavor. Tart. Chery dominates. Thin body, kinda syrupy. Sweet dry finish. I’m diggin it, no sign of "belgian" to me. Thought it was better at cooler tempertures. I’ll take one anytime.

FANTASTIC! The aroma is full of ripe, sweet cherries with a hint of malt. The flavor is absolutely full of cherry flavor perfectly balanced with a wonderful malt/wheat backbone that makes it taste like a fresh cherry pie, including subtle spices that remind you of cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on top. One of my favorite beers!
