Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

From Bottle. Pours a fiery orange and peach skin color with a tall froth of pink tainted, toasted marshmellow head. Powerful aroma of freshly baked cherry pie complete with the fruity tartness found from the cherry skins. A pleasant spiciness of autumn apple cider lurks underneath, spiced with orange peel, lemonade, and a pinch of cinnimon. Some sweet and spicy orange marmalade as well. A light pastriness reminds me of a delicate, french crepe topped with a mountain of fresh fruit and whipping cream. Medium bodied, sparkling mouthfeel with a clove spiciness and smack of sour apple sauce. Wonderful balance between sugary cherry sweetness, tart fermented lemons, and a supberbly complimentary spiciness. Final smack of freshly squeezed pomegranite juice. Thanks, Tom!

I probably should have saved this, should have waited for the right guests, the right moment after dinner ("Anyone want a Belgian Red?"), the right time to match another beer put on the table. But I didn’t. I had to open it. Total cherry. Explodes with a fullness of cherry and red, hint of sour and Belgian ale. Excellent. My wife turned her nose to it. "I don’t like fruit beers," she said. "And it tastes like cherry pie."

Nice tart cherry nose with a very soft malt background. Very delicate and somewhat overly sweet on the palate. Tastes like cherry pie filling, unfortunately I HATE pie. Would prefer it top be much drier.

Light burgundy body. Best cherry aroma ever. Just like warm cherry pie, crust and all. I spent the better part of 20 minutes just sniffing this one. Heavily sweet throughout with a light acidity in the finish. Medium body, creamy/oily texture, average carbonation. The bottom line is: (drools). edit 1/4/05: body is fuller than I originally thought and the carbonation is a bit heavier. Still smells and tastes great. Oak is much more apparent now that I have a 750 of this than it was with my original, smaller sample. I’m bumping up the flavor (9->10), palate (4->5), and overall (17->19) now that I have a larger sample. Props to ClarkVV!

Nice balance between sweet cherry notes and slight tartness. Not as tart as many krieks I have had, but not cloyingly sweet.

Many thanks to LeonM for bring this back to Oz for me. Pours a medium dark cherry red brown, faintly hazy and large amount of sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Mild medium very slightly artificially sweet cherry flavoured cough syrup aroma. Nice touch of cinnamon spice as well. Smooth but slightly clinging palate. Moderate to strong cherry sweet and unripe cherry sour start. Medium dry tarter middle before back to cherry ripe sweet yet clean finish. A touch on the sweet side for me and couldn’t drink a whole lot of it but imagine it would pair well with certain foods especially some desserts

750ml - thanks Secret Santa (JPDIPSO) - Aroma is strong cherry with a touch of yeast and malt. Pours a cloudy dark pink with a medium head and good lacing. Flavor is full of cherry and not much else. Palate is tart fading to sweet which is interesting and refreshing. There is no question this is a tasty brew, a bit one dimensional IMHO.

I like this beer. It was the most different brew that I’ve ever had. Very strong cherry taste and aroma. Hints of malt and not a trace of hops. Great brew to have at the end of an evening, with or in lieu of a desert.
