Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

Bottle. Another awesome fruit beer from new glarus. Probably my favorite sweet fruit beer and even though i like the raspberry a little more side by side. Red body pink head loads of sweet cherries this is just AWESOME.

Bottle at GABF 2008. Dark red/brown - pink head. Marzipan, sweetness, berries, bitterness, tar, high sweetness, light nutty, wheaty. Not smooth and balanced enough....

(Bottled, 0.75l) Muddy reddish amber with hardly any head. Surprisingly mild aroma with cherries, strawberry and wheat. A delicious, pretty sweet, but quite natural flavor with very little tartness, but quite high acidity in the finish. Medium-bodied, sticky palate with low, smooth carbonation. A nice and quite balanced, but pretty sticky-sweet brew.

Poured a copper, amber color with a small slightly off white head. Aroma of sweet fresh cherries. Taste is sour cherries, alittle yeast, but the cherries are extremely fresh! Hey, I may need another one of these

Sweet monkey... Lighter red color with no real head. Aroma is solidly cherry, but not overwhelmingly so. Good burst of cherries on the tongue with a surprising malty backbone. I had it at room temp and it was nice and tasty; have to try it cold next time around.

2004 bottle thanks to Footbalm and Flemdawg. Tried side-by-side with a 2003 Cantillon Kriek. Needless to say, this one didnt quite come out on top, but for what it was, I was very pleased. Especially after drinking the vastly unbalanced and cloying Raspberry tart. Wonderful pour, murky, muddled dark red and burgundy with browns and tans swriling about. Cloudy, unfiltered and bottle conditioned. Aroma of tart, fresh cherries, moderate sweetness with some wheat and a light yeast influence. Flavor opens up with a burst of ripe cherries followed quickly by a touch of lightly tart yeast. Hops add a touch of balance, and while the cherries do not quite overwhelm with sweetness, there is no want of sugar, fruit and sweet malt here. What I could use more of, is the wonderful tart lambic flavor hiding in the background. On the finish, some hops are evident, earthy, lightly sharp, rusty and old, with a good dose of wheat and yeast, but it is not quite enough to stop the cherries. I like what New Glarus is doing; these beers are fresh and wonderfully crafted, but they need to tone down the fruit, at least in my opinion. Only traces of sourness or oak can be felt, while there is a touch of oily roast on the very end, the cherry tartness and meaty pulpiness of it really overshadows everything. A good beer and one that would age well. I do need to try some extensively aged samples of this (and the raspberry) before passing a final judgement, but for now it is too sweet and only adds yeast tartness/sourness as an afterthought.

(Bottle) Look is very shady murky brown like mud almost. Tan head. Sweet cherry scent, some bitter almond. Sweet and still very sour taste. Sour aftertaste. Very low bitterness. Feels like a non-alcoholic cherry soft drink. Taste a bit like cherry-coke.
