The aroma is fantastically balanced between sweet and tart. The flavor is simply fantastic. A brilliant carbonation that tickles the tongue and stimulates the palate. Fantastic. The aroma is incredible. A big bouquet of cherries. Initial sips were a pleasant sweet and sour, not overdone either way. Well carbonated. A nice offering from New Glarus. Simply entrancing that something so dull looking could turn into a marvelous spectacle in the mouth. It pours a deep ruby red with a lucious thin red head...nice cloudy amber appearance. The aroma is total cherries! Cherry pie, cherry soda, cherry everthing. The taste dances around the wildest creations known to man!!! Apple tart, Cherry pie, cherry coke, sour, sweet, lambicy....crap...im getting dizzy just writing about this delectable creation. Perfectly carbonation and tongue tickling...right in the middle with the cherries and on the sides with the tart...wow!...Someone get me more now!!!!

Poured out of 750 mL bottle, enjoyed in a tasting at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in Costa Mesa, CA 11/12/03. Whispy white head, edges of light tannish-pink. Opaque, pink amber body. Nice appearance, but that's not the incredible thing about this beer-- the nose is simply one of the best aromas I've ever had the pleasure to smell. If it were socially acceptable, I'd just sit around all night taking this beer in through the nose! Cherry pie. Very rich cherry and some tart cranberry in the nose, but mostly just soft, decadent cherry pie with wonderful strength and warmth. Flavor is tart cherry again, like a pie (someone said McDonald's cherry pie, but I can't be sure since I've never had it-- still, it sounded like a compliment coming from that guy). Flavor is slightly bready, full-on pie giving you a bit of the crust. Finish is very, very smooth but not quite long enough. Fantastic while it's there, but not quite enough to push it over the top. The aroma makes this beer, and everything else is just a pleasureful accompaniment to that outstanding start. jgb9348 (2515), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA

Hazy burgundy/amber colour with a thin pinkish tan head. Aroma of cherries, raspberries, caster sugar, tart strawberries and a light vinegary twang. Full-bodied; Sour cherry flavour, not too tart, but plentiful sweet cherry qualities. A bit of spicey hints, but mostly sour perfectly balanced with sweetness. Aftertaste has a great mouthful-cherries and some caramel/brown sugar tastes. Overall, VERY happy to try this beer. It had a great mix of sweet and sour flavours, MANY thanks to Tom (CaptainCougar) for this trade way back in September 2003. I was VERY happy with Beer #1000! Brewso (238), Mt Kisco, New York, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 11, 2004 There is a thickness to this fruit beer that I did not expect. In the glass it was a dark and cloudy red and the mouthfeel was silky smooth with bubbles providing some punctuation. This is quite apart from the light feel and look of other fruit beers I’ve had. There is a super-real cherry taste that is much more complicated than the "cherry soda" comments would suggest and quite different than eating a "fresh cherry." The cherry is embedded in a mature maltiness and yeastiness. The hops cut the sweetness at just the right place. There is a lingering cherry complexity in the nose that is very satisfying. Too many sips in a row made the experience too intense. When I ate and paused between sips I could appreciate the beauty of this beer as it was meant to be enjoyed: in moderation. Big juicy cherry up front, tart finish. Very active carbonation tingles the tongue and complements the cherry acidity nicely. Given to me courtesy of JPDipso.
