Commercial Description:
Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin farmed wheat and Belgian roasted barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.

I really like this beer and I dont even really like sweet things. Its by far the best fruit beer out there. The only strange thing I noticed about this one is that it dosen’t seem very strong. Perhaps it’s just that one will not normally sit down and have a few bottles of this.

Bottle: Poured a clear light pink/red color ale with a huge bubbly head with average retention. Aroma of delicate sweet cherries is enchanting; I could spend hours smelling this beer. Taste is perfect with nice balance mix between naturally sweet cherries and malt. Subtle sourness at the end brings everything together for a perfect close. Carbonation is perfect for a fruit beer as well as carbonation and level of sweetness. Truly the best fruit beer I ever tasted.

01.31.05 750ml bottle, champagne flute at first, then tumbler. Reddish/copper/amber, clouded; big tan head with purple and pink hued highlights. Aroma is dominated by cherries: ripe, overripe, mascerated, dried, and delicious cherries. Coinciding biscuity notes make the whole package remind of cherry pie! Quite tart, great balance but tending towards sweet/tart, finishes even more tart and cleansingly astringent. Flavors burst with fresh fresh fruit, lightly acetic; lingering yeast and vinous hints. Amazing beer!

Pours a hazy burnt red (sort of fall colors like) with a good head of off white foam - nice lace. The aroma is that of (you guessed it) cherries. The flavor is so well balanced - not too sweet, not too tart, just right! The cherries taste like sour cherries. The mouth feel is rich but refreshing. Wow, I could drink a bunch of this! My opinion is that in order to get the real sour effect, drink this one well chilled. Liquid cherry pie.

A garnet color and explosive fruit aroma and flavor. You can really tell where the pound of cherries went. Not an every day drinker but definitely something special.

Bottle courtesy of Styles with much thanks!!! This is just a superb beer. Pours a deep rubyish color. Head has pinkish hues. The head fades to a thin layer and leaves very nice lacing. Aroma is purely cherry. Sweet and tart to the nose. Lighter bodied. Flavor is also fully of the cherries, a fruit I am not overly fond of. This plays so well in this beer though. Yes, I could drink this day in and out and be very happy.

#900.......A big thank you to JPDIPSO for this one. First of all, let me get this over with and state that I preferred the Raspberry Tart ever so slightly to this one, but this one kicks ass also (I gave the RT a 4.7, this one gets a 4.6). New Glarus beers absolutely rule. This one poured ruby red with a big, fluffy, pink head. Aroma of big cherries, slight hops and malt. Tastes incredible, with a great cherry flavor backed up by a solid malt backbone and some great layered finishing hops and tartness. Finishes medium bodied, slightly tart. The hand-poured wax on the bottle is a nice touch, also. This beer just screams quality, complexity, and balance. It isn’t some gimmicky crap, either. As it warmed, the flavor profile became even more complex, with noticable malt, hops, of course the cherries. I’ll take this, and the raspberry tart, over any wine any day of the week, hands down.

If you like cherry, this is the beer for you. The bottle I had had a slightly different label than what is pictured here. A great, easy to drink fruit beer. Beautiful color.
